[regarding Tiger Woods]
"The extent to which he can recover seems to me depends on his faith," Hume said. "He is said to be a Buddhist. I don't think that faith offers the kind of forgiveness and redemption that is offered by the Christian faith. So, my message to Tiger is, 'Tiger, turn to the Christian faith and you can make a total recovery and be a great example to the world."

Oh, just fuck off...
Running around cheating on your wife isn't exactly what a practising Buddhist does.
@ Mathew
Rebirth is not the same as reincarnation. I'm a Buddhist and I don't believe I'm coming back as anything, in fact I'm also an atheist (as are many other Buddhists).
Maybe Hume's right. I mean when Sen. David Vitter was busted for having sessions with hookers during which he wore diapers, he just had to come out and say that his wife and his god had forgiven him and that as far as he was concerned everybody could just fuck off if they didn't like it. (paraphrasing)
That's some racket, that christianism.

It doesn't. Buddhists more or less believe if you screw up, you'll have to do it over until you get it right. Buddhists don't believe you can be a prick all your life, say you're sorry and God will say "that's OK, you're forgiven".
Lolwut? Christianity makes you feel guilty for being something that you didn't even do and that was completely out of your control. And then Jesus had to come down and die for humanity, which, in the words of Bill Maher, is like being billed for something you didn't order.
Yes, join our little monkey club and make all the proper noises of contrition, and all will be forgiven. Don't forget to sign the form that says we can use you as a poster child, and put a dollah in the box-a. Then your new friends will vouch for how changed you are. Works like a charm.
Because we all know that if you're a Christian you'll never be involved in a sex scandal. Just ignore Jim Bakker, Jimmy Swaggart, Ted Haggard, Tony Alamo, etc.
@Tyler: Christianity makes you feel completely guilty for something you didn't do and had no control over, yet it gives you forgiveness for the bad stuff you did do and had control over.
Isn't that because Buddhism focuses more on personal responsibility (you screw up, drop and give me 50 and then try again, private!) ? Both things that various strains of fundie Christianity don't bother with.
He denied he was proselytizing, and then went on to say basically the same thing again. Fox News really doesn't care how stupid a person is as long as they parrot those talking points, do they? I'm surprised they haven't offered a show to Andy Schlafly.

One has to wonder what Hume's been up to in his free time.
Just saying, these 'personal relationship with God' people fall off the moralty wagon way more than average folk. Tiger's an exeption in the news, it's mostly the 'Holier than Thou' types that end up in scandals
Hell, Half of Fox's 'professional Anaylists' have moral and legal violations on their records
Ted Haggard, Jim Bakker, Jimmy Swaggart, Tony Alamo, and all those Catholic kid-touching priests all say hello.
@A Follower of Christ
No thanks. The bible has a number of different interpretations, and it contradicts itself and scientific facts several times. Also, what a Christian believes and tries to live out in their daily life just depends on the person.
Confused?
