I can’t tell you how many sad tales I’ve heard from people who’ve seen the destructive effects of homosexual behavior in the life of a son, a daughter, a brother or a sister. The first battleground of ideas is one’s own mind. We need to equip our kids to stand firm in their convictions and know how to defend them.

Yeah, in our case it's because my fundie homophobic cousin is being such a dick about it that he and my gay bother can't be in the same room together.
Funny thing, in the (almost) non-homophobic society I live in, none of the gays and lesbians I know got their lifes ruined by following their - for lack of a better term - "interests". Maybe that's because none of them were ever outcast or shunned for what they are.

Yes, us Christians do ned to stand up and be counted and love all our fellow humans unconditionally regardless of their identity. And that will include those who are, by normal and natural process, homosexual.

Actually, a lot of Christians DIDN'T like Wilberforce; the birth of modern evangelism occurred with the introduction of Biblical literalism to the US South during the Civil War. There were a huge - and I do mean HUGE - number of Christians and Jews who supported slavery using Bible quotes.
Many would, in fact, argue that they had stronger theological ground than the abolitionists...

I haven't seen any families ripped apart. Well, there were the Watsons, a couple of blocks over. He told her one day that he was going out to pick up some Chinese for supper. That was 27 years ago, and he still hasn't returned. But I doubt if homosexuality had anything to do with this.

My sister's gay. She's been with her partner for over 30 years. Two lovely people. I'm very happy for them. My mother accepts her common law "daughter-in-law" like her own daughter. Everything's just fine.
