A storm has erupted over comments by Australia's top Muslim cleric, who told worshippers women who don't cover up their bodies are responsible for sexual attacks they endure.
The Australian newspaper reported that Sheik Taj Aldin Hilaly has outraged female Muslim leaders with comments he made during a Ramadan sermon to 500 worshippers in Sydney last month.
In the sermon on the topic of adultery, he compared the plight of women who suffered sexual attacks to uncovered meat.
"If you take out uncovered meat and place it outside on the street, or in the garden or in the park, or in the backyard without a cover, and the cats come and eat it ... whose fault is it, the cats or the uncovered meat?," he reportedly said.
"If she was in her room, in her home, in her hijab, no problem would have occurred."
The Sheikh also said women were "weapons" used by "Satan" to control men.

I'd like to point out to a rant I made a few months ago (just look for it, I'm too lazy to do so) in which I argued that exposing people to "immodest" clothing reduces the number of sexual crimes. People get used to it and are therefore less likely to be overcome by uncontrollable urges.

Yep. The fundie "blame the victim" project marches on. I am a resident of Australia and I am ashamed to the core that this country has people like this getting time on national television spewing this kind of garbage. It is things like this that deepen the divide between the cultures and will one day spark a war. I don't like to say that I hate anyone, but I do hate people like this; people who villify women in the name of their religion.
So, does this kind of reasoning allow a robber to claim that it's not his fault because the money tempted him too much for him to resist? Maybe the robber could even sue the person he robbed for causing him to act immorally!

Repugnant sentiments aside, is this really front-page worthy? If some (to take an example at random) judge said, and I quote, it's impossible for a woman to be raped if she's wearing jeans (in defense of rapists who attack women in short skirts), she knew what she was wearing when she left the house.... that would maybe rate page six.
I am tempted to kill raging fundies. Fundies should stay in their rooms in their homes. If they did, I wouldn't be tempted to kill any of them. If I should happen to kill a fundy, it's clearly not my fault.

Alright, using this joker's own analogy let's consider the moral implications. Let's say someone leaves out a piece of meat on a porch. Now, another person walks by and steals the meat. Who is the thief again?
Besides being a morally horrid analogy, it doesn't even work the way he means it to work:

I don't get it. If men are so incapable of self restraint then why is this man advocating that women remain at home, unseen? Surely we should be the ones in charge, exerting authority over the poor creatures whose thinking is comparable to that of cats.

I will email this to that idiot convert who told me that Islam gives more freedom to women than any other religion. Well, yes, this guy is a dullard and doesn´t represent islam, but I don´t see many enthusiastic moderate moslems linching him verbally.

I think that the USA should do the muslim world a huge favor. Since women are leading their men to sin and vice, why not just send all their women here to America? We'll have all the hot arab women, they'll have their faith and eveyrone will be happy.
