What video was he watching? Irini didn't jump Kyle from behind out of nowhere. A fight had already started and Kyle was in the middle of beating on Edmar, who was on his knees, when she tried to pry the two apart. Kyle threw her to the side and she slapped him before he punched her and shoved her onto the counter, at which point the unnamed man behind the counter grabs Kyle's arm and Edmar gets up and crawls over Irini to get at Kyle. Hell, if you're paying attention Irini was in front of and facing away from Kyle when he grabbed and threw her.

Found extended footage elsewhere. Turns out a few seconds before VD's clip starts Jake chases Edmar behind the counter area and they pummel each other with a crowd on their heels. It's a mess of men clawing and sucker-punching eachother before Irini even shows up. When she does, she pushes her way through the crowd and starts ineffectually smacking Kyle with what might have been a thin purse to distract him from beating on Edmar. By the time VD's clip starts though, she's lost whatever she was hitting him with and is instead trying to force them apart.
So VD, who the fuck cares? There are certainly women who can kick any man's ass, but why do they need to? Like the old saying has it, "god made men, but Colonel Colt made them equal." And women too.
There is no reasoning with this man. Every time a man beats up a woman, it's proof of his theory. Every time a woman beats up a man she's an exception to the rule and probably secretly a man anyway. The best we can hope for is that he doesn't put his fetish for man-on-woman violence into practice one of these days.

Hilariously, Kyle is claiming it was Irini that tore open his shirt (clearly Edmar and another man that grabbed Kyle from behind) and that in the seconds between punching Edmar in the face and punching Irini in the face he was peppersprayed by a female police officer. If you watched the video you'll notice said officer is roughly 8-10 feet away, on the other side of a large mob that is not reacting as though they've been peppersprayed though at some point it seems he did get maced. Maybe it's even possible. Irini herself conveniently forgot to include the part where she was hitting Kyle over the head rather than being diplomatic in her own telling of the story so the lines aren't as clear as I'd like. Spicing up the details aside, in a brawl like that you're lucky not to whale on your best friend before you register who you're hitting let alone somebody that wrestles you off the person you're holding.
The fight happened for stupid reasons and nobody in it was exactly a bystander, but if there's one clear bad guy in the story it's VD.
Frankly, the girl, Irini seems to be the one with the most she-balls. I haven't seen the video but a woman jumping in to defend her friend from a bunch of jockstraps must have ovaries of pure titanium!

I'm a fan of Metroid and of Samus Aran. I'm not hung up on her being a symbol for feminists or even of strong women, I simply know her as a badass character. A character built up as being the single most dangerous person in the galaxy. As being iron-willed and resourceful. As being one of a handful of people with the faintest clue how to operate the technology of an ancient race. As someone so feared in-universe that an entire armada of planet burning space pirates will change course just because they think she's in the general area. As a bitch so cold she took a job to straight wipe out a species and except for a single moment of compassion did exactly what she got paid for then took out an entire planet again on mere principle when the single Metroid she spared got nabbed.

There are so very many ways they could have salvaged her dignity along with their own, improved the story, added a twist and hook for future games, all by taking back this horrible new character interpretation and saying she was a clone or something like they tried with the Metroids (and virtually everything else that's ever tried to kill her) after the real Samus figured she'd stop taking the Federation's calls because their bullshit missions kept seeing them stab her in the back/muck with her DNA and that's why she had the mind of a child and a near-suicidal drive to please commander father-figure no matter what kind of abusive tool he was.
