I stand by my belief that if we magically could spread all the world’s wealth equally amongst all people right now, by the end of a week we would yet again have poverty, people demanding they be given more because they are now worse off than others, and despicable scumbags taking advantage of these people that feel entitled people’s stupidity to make themselves even richer.
The poor tend to be poor because they generally are prone to making bad choices, and/or live in places where terrible behavior and denial of freedoms make it impossible for any kind of prosperity. Man is inherently evil, and the left hates that concept because it makes their Utopian view impossible to ever achieve. The best way out of poverty is education and the ability to find work. Not all will succeed, and poverty will never be eradicated. It’s a human condition that will forever be there. What the left wants to do, and frankly has spent the last 100 years doing, always results in the only possible outcome, and a disastrous one: a small group of elite hold tyrannical power over the rest, whom are all poor.

But what about those poor persons who cannot afford education?

Gee. That sounds strangely like the Middle Ages, when the aristocrats and the clergy ruled over the poor peasants. Are you saying leftists are responsible for that?
"a small group of elite hold tyrannical power over the rest, whom are all poor."
You mean like corporate CEOs and they wage slaves they employ? (or lay off when their payroll cuts into the boss's massive bonuses?)
"a small group of elite hold tyrannical power over the rest, whom are all poor."
Can anyone name the country which is most often featured on the wealth distribution charts that best depict this situation... anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
a small group of elite hold tyrannical power over the rest, whom are all poor.
Which is exactly how things work out under Republican policies.

Human nature is inflexible and happens to match my ideology flawlessly. Progress is UNFEASIBLE. That's why we live in caves!
Gosh I hope no space alien with no ability to understand sarcasm finds an internet access and starts reading comment threads!

Actually, this quote, by itself, does have a point. In the free market situation, the wealth will be redistributed on the unequal basis.
You might not be able to eradicate poverty, but you can even out the tops and bottoms, making everyone at least tolerable.
In Sweden, after about 60 years of almost constant Social-democratic government (our left-centrist party), we had a society where everyone got a fairly decent public education, everyone had fairly easy access to affordable medical care, a fairly low unemployment rate, and no-one starved to death due to poverty. It wasn't perfect, but it was OK for almost all citizens. After just seven years of right-wing government, we have people starving, people not getting any education because the private school owners forgot to use the tax money they got to education and just lined their own pockets with it, people having to give birth in hospital corridors, and the unemployment rate has skyrocketed and won't come down, no matter how much taxes they cut for the rich. In short, we have reversed almost 60 years in only 7 years.
I have to agree that Communism seldom work, as everyone tend to think they need more and are able to do less. But Communism isn't the only left-wing ideology, just as Liberalism isn't the only right-wing ideology.
"Man is inherently evil,"
Are you evil? Are your friends, family, acquaintances evil ?
None of mine are.
The belief that most people are bad is simply not borne out by everyday experience. Some people are utter cunts, but these people are very much in the minority.
Unfortunately, we seem to have arrived at a society with that minority in charge.
@Swede :
"In short, we have reversed almost 60 years in only 7 years. "
Shows you how powerful conservatism is.
America has had this kind of conservatism for 30 years. Explains the collossal fail over here don't you think?
Veil of ignorance would be a useful thought experiment here.
Here he is, writing off millions of people. Would he be so casual about it if he was one of the millions so written off? If he was reborn tomorrow as a kid in a third world slum, and told that he was poor because he was "inherently evil" and had "made bad choices".
"Not all will succeed, and poverty will never be eradicated."
While I do agree with this statement, I think it would be cool if a good chunk of those people didn't succeed just because their parents were rich, or because they just so happen to be born with the right skin color.
despicable scumbags taking advantage of these people that feel entitled people’s stupidity to make themselves even richer.
If it makes you happier, think of them as entrepreneurs making a buck by their wits. You'd admire them then.
The best way out of poverty is education and the ability to find work.
That requires a functioning economy and civil society which enables mass education and provides opportunities for employment which, of necessity, involves a certain amount of reapportioning of the world's wealth.
Jesus might have said "the poor you have always with you," but he did not thereby give you an excuse to ignore them. Did his mother not say "He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty" (Luke 1: 53)?
He might be right in one regard, some poor people don't have good skills to manage or maintain money, and some people got their money through cons, so you might still end up with poverty on that front, however that mostly just means that we also need better education for people as well as some means to alleviate and manage the situation as best we can. And giving education means everyone deserves the best possible education, like maybe doing what many European countries do and make higher education state funded.
Not all will succeed, and poverty will never be eradicated.
With that same logic you could dispose of medicine and doctors, because people will still die.
Yes, most probably there will always be some poverty. But that does not mean that we as a society should not try to mitigate the consequences of this poverty.
@Swede
HOW DID THAT HAPPEN? I thought the Swedish were progressive! How could conservatism even get a foothold?!
Hopefully, it'll reverse soon. Even to this day I hear about how Progressive, open-minded & great Sweden is.
One thing's for sure, Sweden's far more Left-Wing than the USA!
Can't see much wrong with the first sentence; it only takes a minority of ruthless bastards to screw things up for everyone else, and there's the problem that we are not born equal. Inevitably, the clever and the strong will work their way into positions of power and use it to make life comfortable for themselves at the expense of others.
But it is the Right, not the Left, that encourages this and the Left, not the right, that presses for corrective policies to secure some measure of justice and protection for the less capable.
Revolutionary politics can certainly result in tyrannical elites, but all the lefties I know would denounce these as a betrayal of the progressive ideal. George Orwell, anyone? Follow through the ideals of the Right, however, and you'll finish up with a tyrannical elite as a matter of course. It won't be an aberration but the logical outcome of the ideology. Everywhere in the world, rightwing governments bust their asses trying to protect the wealthy, while deceiving ordinary folks, including the poor, into thinking they're on their side.
@#1605513
Sadly, the 'betrayal of revolutionary ideals' only works when said revolutionaries are not in power; it helps distance themselves from the failures of those revolutionary regimes they do not support. When they are in power they can be even more excluding and tyrannical as the right. The instances where the revolutionary left do not use the concepts of the "vanguard party" and the "dictatorship of the proletariat" to exploit the populations over which they rule are pitifully few. Where Western revolutionaries' friends are in power, those Westerners are prepared to excuse the grossest of abuses and atrocities and that, I have found over twenty years of contact with the revolutionary left, is the rule rather than the exception.
Ok, let's make a deal. Be at least consistent and, when you or the people around are jobless in the future, remember the bullshit you spilt. Ah, and stop being a Christian. Remember what Jesus said?
Confused?
