Am I the only one who happened to notice that a number of the Russian lady ice skaters, three that I saw, blessed themselves with the sign of the cross as they left the ice after their performance? Those Godless Communists at it again. As our neo-cons love to say Putin is a phony and does not care one wit about Christianity, [but] I have to say those girls looked serious to me! Naturally, no American would attempt such a thing as they would be ridiculed by our press and hounded by interviewers. I will say I can’t remember seeing the sign of the cross made in public outside of a cemetery service. Watch the remainder of the competition to see if it continues. Shocking.

"As our neo-cons love to say Putin is a phony and does not care one wit about Christianity,"
Is this just before, or just after they say Russia is the defender of western civilization?
I don't care about what neo-cons say, they are irrelevant. I also don't care if those skaters attribute their physical successes to a higher power, that's their own business. What I do care about is that Russia is an increasingly repressive country with a buggered economy that's meddling in the affairs of sovereign nations and financing rebel groups inside their borders.
Putin was a cool dude back in the 00's when he snubbed your precious George Bush. Now, he's just a crazy despot who's slowly losing his grasp on reality.
Actually, crosses were usual even un the comunist Soviet Union because atheism was not actually enforced. Even Fidel Castro wears his lady de la Caridad del Cobre without problem. Putin, we have to say, has tried to restore the public figure of Stalin. If you're going to say nonsense at least get your facts right
Not an American Football fan, eh?
On the other hand, I've never seen any sports figure do the Hokey-pokey. I understand that's what it's all about, so it should work better than touching yourself four times.

Putin is not a lady ice skater.

Perhaps you're not a Catholic or an Orthodox Christian.
ChristoFrum wingnuts are hilarious. First, the Russians are "Godless Communists", now they're "Model Christians". Amazing how frums change allegiances just like that if it means getting to control & dominate people.
Russia is now the bastion of Christian freedom in the Western World, huh? Isn't this from the same people who, thirty years ago, had their finger on the Big Red Button?
Putin is much more dangerous than a phony; he seems to want to be Stalin 2.0.
The SOVIET STATE had no religion, numbskull! People were still religious, although in secret.
Would you stop being Christian if someone told you to? Ask the Jews how "well" repressing their faith for centuries worked...
I thought America was one of the most religious countries in the world. Guess I was wrong...

Putin was never a cool dude. He has always been a cold-blooded opportunist, willing to wink at whatever social trend gave him more power. He probably doesn't give a damn about gays, either, he'll just take whatever position makes him look more in touch with the people.
"Our precious George Bush" You mean the one we probably didn't elect twice? The one we're still vilifying?
@gargoyle1
You've never watched baseball, have you?
If I saw a player touching himself during a baseball game, I would figure it's a signal to the pitcher.
Naturally, no American would attempt such a thing
Perhaps not the Protestants, but lots of American athletes do just that. Interestingly enough, it's usually the ones who lose who cross themselves. Go figure. ;-)
Putin is a cynical, populist tyrant who exploits the sincere beliefs of the Russian people to further his own political and financial ends.
You are ignorant of reality, as are many who see life through the xtian filter.
"...sign of the cross...those Godless Communists" = OXYMORON (emphasis on the "MORON" part).
The Russian Orthodox Church never went away, really. Suppressed, yes, but had a VERY quick resurgence after the Iron Curtain fell. Yes, Putin IS a slick opportunist -- if he thought wearing ladies' underwear would help him hold on to power, he'd be modeling the latest from Victoria's Secret.
And, yes, American athletes (especially the football players) regularly thank their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the postgame TV interviews, so another FAIL there.
"Naturally, no American would attempt such a thing as they would be ridiculed by our press and hounded by interviewers."
That's your imaginary persecution talking. Turn on ANY sport and you'll see otherwise.
@nazani14
Putin frequently pulled the rug out from under Bush back when he was screwing everything up without somebody to stop him. You might not like him, but the fact remains he had enough political support in the US to become president twice, nitty gritty number crunching not taken in consideration. Yeah, Putin was a corrupt ex-KGB man, but he kept his maniacal tendencies in check and you sort of knew where he stood. Sometimes the harmless egoïsts, corrupt or loudmouths are preferable to a democratic leader with schemes you don't see, or their puppetmasters with schemes. That doesn't excuse Putin's recent inabilities to keep his cold, rational side from overruling his panicked, Cold Warrior side.
Confused?
