[An article about a girl who made a Facebook site praising James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family.]
It was about a year ago when I got Facebook. I grew up listening to Dr. Dobson’s program, so I was browsing through groups and I decided to search his name. I did and (the groups) were all negative. They were all against him or making fun of him. That kind of bothered me because he had been such a role in my life. My mom had read a lot of his books to us when we were younger, and they had also really helped her. It had never occurred to me that people wouldn’t like him. I know that sounds childish, but growing up, my extended family – everybody – was such a big fan and listening to his programs was a learning time and a stability for me. So I just decided to create a group about him, about what he was doing that was really good for the family.

Go listen to his interview with rapist-serial murderer Ted Bundy. Listen to Dobson lick Bundy's ass and laugh with that ghoulish piece of evil incarnate just to get him to endorse his anti-pornography agenda(interesting since Bundy often said pornography didn't interest him as much as underwear ads in the Sears catalog and none was found on him at the time of his arrest, he told the cops it "didn't interest him"). Then tell me what a great man this piece of shit who sells his intergrity for a monster's false endorsement is!
She's a kid, she doesn't know any better.
Dobson's a complete asshole, I'll give you that. But this kid has just fallen for the 'it hurts us more than it hurts you' bullshit. She probably doesn't even know what Dobson is all about, just that her parents bought his books.
You know, I understand how this guy feels. Not directly, but I have have been involved with a girl once who could not stand the thought of anyone not liking her. It was bizarre to the core and it cost me that relationship when I told her that throughout life, most of the people one meets will either be neutral towards you or simply not like you. I have accepted that simple fact a long time ago and I think I'm a better person for it.
Joining the chorus of "why is this even here?". Dobson is an asshole, but this kid probably hasn't done any background research. She also hasn't got the smarts to realise that when all the other groups on Facebook are against him, more than likely there's something wrong with her idol.
I don't if not fiunie ,Face it funides is has fundie does, right .I just don't think it a over the top fundie ( not yet anyway).Let see what happen after she has some more of the James Dobson, condition and brainwashing .I'm sure her post will get more and more rabid and mean spirited has time goes on.She will devlope a deep hate for
Spongebob Squarepants and has they call it the " secretive Gay agenda" and all thing different .
"My mom had read a lot of his books to us when we were younger, and they had also really helped her. "
Does she spank you with a lot? With a belt or does she use a baseball bat?
Doesn't sound very fundy to me, actually, pretty reasonable!
I mean, if you're a fan of somebody and only find negative response to them, wouldn't you try to create a community to celebrate your "star"
Even the spelling and the grammar seem ok to me (english is not my first language)
This shouldn't be posted here!
"That kind of bothered me because he had been such a role in my life."
... and you have been such a tool in his.
Barely Fundie, but... Homskul alert! Also, this would be much more fundie if it turns out Heather is a sock puppet.
Maybe not fundie but Dobson must be stopped!
Also, you are an idiot, I just wanted to be clear on that.
Replace James Dobson with anyone you happen to really admire, and I think it would sound fairly reasonable. No, I'm no fan of James Dobson - but it looks like Heather is.
When people were trashing Michael J Fox nearly two years ago - over the ESCR deal, I'm sure I've posted something similar.
Yeah, James Dobson is an ignorant prick - but, still...
@ Sarah
I just read the dog-training incident. Glad he doesn't own a large dog or he would be dead right now. But he didn't learn that being pack leader has absolutely nothing to do with being able to beat down the dog. I own rotts, trust me, if I had to fight them, I would loose badly.
As far as the wife beating, meh, it's nothing new. Same old shit they always use. It's their right, and the woman makes them hit her.
To be fair to James Dobson, a lot of his Focus on the Family broadcasts I've heard on Christian radio actually sound like reasonable family advice. Things like "teen-agers are going to be tired a lot because they're going through a growth spurt, so don't think that your teen-age son taking a mid-afternoon nap means that he's lazy."
But then again, this is also a guy who thinks that "family" only means "nuclear family."
Confused?
