There are people who claim to be Christians, yet they reject the Bible as a source of truth, add to or take away from the bibical record, or don’t interpret the Old Testament in light of the New Testament. This has led to many false teachings which have caused much suffering in the world. On the other hand, fundamentalist Christians have basically led the opposition to every evil the world has ever produced!

It wasn’t atheists who got rid of Roman emperor worship–it was fundamentalist Christians. It wasn’t atheists who got rid of the power of the papacy–it was fundamentalist Christians. Christianity has indeed led to many false teachings and much suffering in the world.

The Roman empire was gotten rid of shortly after it had adopted Christianity, yes.
The power of the Papacy is still alive and kicking.
Slavery is still rampant in the world; mostly in backwards, poor religious countries and regions.
It WAS atheists who opposed Hitler, and were shot or beheaded for it. Hitler himself was a fundamentalist Christian.
Fundamentalist Christianity brought the world INTO the darkness of religion.
Fundamentalist Christians tend to vilify and disbelieve the blessings of science that exploded unto the world scene, things like evolution, vaccinations, sexual education, safe contraceptives and abortions.

It wasn't fundamentalist Christians who opposed fundamentalist Christianity - it was atheists.
Atheists like Ayn Rand [spit] opposed atheistic communism, probably with religious fervor.

- Atheists were just as persecuted under the Roman Empire as any Christian. Christians were literally persecuted for "atheism". Of course, actual atheists were few and far between in the those days.
- In the modern world, atheists do often lead the fight against the Catholic Church holding political power. If you're referring to the Protestant Reformation, I'm not sure that I'd call Martin Luther an improvement over Catholicism.
- Bullshit. Christian fundamentalists lead the fight in favor of slavery. Look at the denominations that were in favor of slavery. Those same denominations today are considered conservative. You lie. However, some other denominations did lead the fight against slavery, that is true. It just wasn't the fundamentalist ones.
- Atheists did oppose Hitler. One of Hitler's first acts in office was to shut down the German Humanist Society and convert their meeting hall into a church. And Hitler was taken out by Britain, the United States, and the Soviet Union, not by any holy war. You lie.
- In the time when pagan religions were practiced, atheists were few and far between, like I said earlier. More importantly, how was the Christian Dark Ages an improvement over earlier pagan times, exactly?
- Bullshit. While the first Western scientists were Christian, they were hardly ever fundamentalists. Galileo rejected the authority of the Bible, as did many others. It was Christian scientists in the 1700s and 1800s who realized the earth must be older than the 6000 years which Sola Scriptura demands. Hardly fundamentalists. And you of course say nothing about the countless scientists who lived in Africa, Asia, and even Mesoamerica before the Enlightenment hit Europe.
- The Communist Party in Poland was toppled by the Solidarity Movement, a decidedly left leaning movement. But by all means, go ahead and believe that praying did something.

Last time I checked, the Papacy was still going strong and the Pope was still considered infallible. That's pretty easy to verify, considering Pope Francis is in the news every other day or so. Also, read the Catechism. It's very clear.

I almost spewed coffee all over my new monitor. You can't be serious. The Pagans were doing just fine until christianity invaded and attempted to assimilate them into their new cult. When that didn't work, the early christians figured killing them worked just as well, then demonized (or assimilated) their Deities and converted Pagans at the end of a sword. It was after this the christian dark ages began. Remember them? Theocracy run amok, Witch hunts, mass rape and murder? The Spanish Inquisition (which no one expected)? Your god was used as the justification for an entire historical period of theological darkness, legalized cruelty, denial of science and religious oppression. It didn't exist there before the christians came. You bastards brought the darkness.

That's quite a heavy case of disconnect you have going there.

Let's look here at what she said fundie Christians did:

Roman emperor worship--true, Christians did help to supplant the system of emperor worship. That's good! Cults of personality are not democratic. However, Christians would go on to do basically the same thing. Which brings us to the next one...

Popery--yup, Christians did reduce the pope's power. But the pope too was a Christian and had many religious Christian followers. In fact, he was the leader of what still is the largest Christian denomination.

Slavery--Christians were some of many opponents of slavery. They included people like that fiery William Lloyd Garrison, but he was a Unitarian (in other words, only Christian when you feel it convenient). Also, look up Samuel Morse, inventor of Morse code. His religious Protestantism and anti-Catholic positions should endear him to you, but he was also pro-slavery. And Benjamin Franklin was pretty caustic in some of his criticisms of slavery, and he was a deist, which to you might mean he is an atheist.

Hitler--the Catholic Centre Party (remember, Catholics are Christian) cast the decisive votes for the Enabling Act in the Reichstag. Also, the Social Democratic Party was the main opposition, fighting the law tooth and nail. The Communists, who also opposed it, were prevented from voting.

Pagans--Christians probably killed at least as many as pagans. Regardless, Christianity hasn't exactly had a great track record of sunshine and rainbows, especially compared to pagans.

Science--many prominent early scientists were Christian, and many are Christian today. Still, I highly doubt they believed the same way as you. In fact, many were--gasp!--Catholic. They're only Christian when it's convenient, right?

Communism--Christians have created despotic societies too, like Nazi Germany as well as Zaire. Also, Christians created communal societies like the socialist John Humphrey Noyes' Oneida community, famous for free love.
