2. There is no threat of violence.

I don’t believe there was a time in the past when there was wide-spread violence directed at women by their husbands, not in this country anyway. However, our laws have been changed so that even the possibility of an aggressive response to outrageous behavior has been removed. A woman can hit a man, but if he hits her back, he’s the one who is going to jail. However, for a patriarchal society to function, there unfortunately needs to be some fear in women about physical consequences for egregious behavior. Everyone has noticed by now that women are not great at sussing cause and effect when it comes to their own poor choices and negative outcomes, and this has been badly exacerbated by the removal of all negative outcomes from women. Furthermore, invasive domestic violence and marital rape laws, which are utterly unnecessary since the vast majority of husbands are not violent, have been used to beat men into submission to their wives. She can just say he got physical, and off to jail he goes. It was a shock for me on the thread at Dalrock a couple of weeks ago to hear people say that my husband is taking a great person risk by taking me firmly by the shoulders and sitting me down when I try to flounce out of the room during a disagreement; in what rational world could this possibly be construed as domestic violence?
