A SCHOOL that educates some of England’s rising football stars is failing to tackle extremism among its pupils, whistleblowers have claimed.

Nazi paraphernalia, including a helmet and a flag associated with white supremacy, were paraded through the corridors at Rainhill High School in Liverpool, The Sunday Telegraph understands. Earlier this week it emerged that one teenager was even featured in a photograph on the front page of the school’s newsletter, proudly displaying an “Isis salute”, a gesture of support for Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

The headmaster later apologised, saying it was “issued in error” and removed the newsletter from the website. But a whistleblower said far-Right extremism was endemic at the school, claiming the management was failing to tackle to problem. The secondary school in Merseyside is the nominated school for players en-rolled in Liverpool FC’s academy and counts England midfielder Raheem Sterling among its alumni.

It is not suggested that any pupils of the school who are players with Liverpool FC Academy have engaged in such extremism or that the club has knowledge of any such behaviour.

A source close to the school said: “The school has had an increasing problem with Right-wing extremism. The evidence is there, and unfortunately the school just do not want to address it.” They allege that a student had been “marching around school” blasting out German military music on a phone, and that one student brought a Confederate flag into school. A second whistleblower claimed that a student was seen doing a Nazi salute, while another group of pupils were caught defiling a local war memorial.

“One brought a Nazi flag into school and had to be stopped from putting it up on parents’ evening,” the whistleblower said. “The lads have tried measuring other pupils’ noses to see if they are Jews and shouting ‘ we are the SS, kill the Jews’, during a lunch break.” The school has denied the allegations, but said that three students have been referred to Prevent, the Government’s counter-extremism strategy, one of whom had desecrated a cenotaph and another who had told a fellow pupil, “you’re so skinny you should be in Auschwitz”. The school acknowledged that a pupil had brought in Nazi paraphernalia, but this was “for a GCSE history lesson and GCSE options evening to promote GCSE history”.

Parents and teachers have raised their concerns with Ofsted and their trade union, The Sunday Telegraph understands. John Pout, the headmaster, said: “In my opinion we have not got an issue with Right-wing extremism at Rainhill High School. The three isolated cases that have been brought to our attention have been dealt with quickly and thoroughly.” Rainhill High School is the official academy for Liverpool FC. Liverpool FC declined to comment.
