Today's rant

I’m so sick of seeing people say asexuals are inherently LGBT/queer because the simple fact is they are not.

To be LGBT/queer you need, yes need to be attracted to your own gender (exclusively or otherwise) or not identify as the sex you were assigned at birth those are the only terms and as asexuals CAN be cis het asexuality cannot be considered LGBT. Homoromantic individuals for example can be because they’re attracted to the same gender but asexual no because it’s an umbrella term that includes cis het people therefore meaning it is NOT LGBT or queer.

This is a problem I believe as it encourages more cis het people to claim LGBT or queer to be part of their identity which is simply not true the LGBT movement was created as a safe space for none cis het people and also to tackle issues that the community face. Meanwhile queer was used to oppress LGBT individuals which is why they reclaimed that slur and similar slurs as they were and are still used against them.

Having cis het people considered LGBT not only defeats the point of the movement, rendering it useless it also undermines the struggles the LGBT community have faced and continue to face and what they have fought for.

Furthermore it comes to no surprise that the idea alone of cis het people being considered part of the community angers many individuals as to a lot of members of the community they are seen as the oppressors because it was/is exclusively cis het people who oppress(ed) the LGBT community. Many also feel they are ignorant as they do not experience what LGBT people go through and allowing them into LGBT safe spaces only allows the to claim they understand or can support and LGBT person when in fact they do not know what the individual feels as they cannot relate making it not a safe space.

To conclude I do feel asexuals are real and valid. However they are not inherently LGBT or queer, I feel by allowing cis het people into the community it take the focus off of real yes real LGBT people and helps silence none cis het people and it is more then offensive when cis het people claim to be LGBT when they are not as it sets the LGBT community back and takes away their voices.
