Giants existed prior to and after the flood. The cause of the giants prior to the flood was the same cause that caused them to exist after it as well. God did not bring the flood strictly to wipe them out. He did it primarily because all of the earth was wicked - every human being, all of it's culture was exceedingly wicked, and God would not allow the entire history of mankind to be as it was prior to the flood.
