The idea that there's something inherently wrong with discriminating against people because of their race or ethnicity (like the idea that there's something inherently wrong with slavery) is one that originated with people of European ancestry. Those ideas got a lot of traction in the 20th century, when Europeans still dominated the world. Once their long retreat is completed, it will be interesting to see whether Third Worlders continue to see any reason to give even lip service to principles of non-discrimination.
