We allowed our daughter to be a cheerleader because -
It was at an IFB school.
There was no dancing.
Culottes were worn.
Old fashioned cheerleading took place - yells and stomping of feet and clapping of hands.
There was no hip movement or sensual behavior.
Hand and foot movements wer crisp and precise - could not be mistaken for dancing.

Pity that. I have rather more respect for cheerleading teams that are essentially dance teams because there's quite a lot more skill involved. (Hockey cheerleaders for example -- the ones at my high school were the girls who were too tall or uncoordinated to make the football or basketball cheering teams. They did next to nothing except stand in the stands and lead chants. The football cheerleaders, on the other hand, actually had some skills.)
So, basically they stood completely still, occasionally clapping their hands and stomping their limbs.
Lady, that sounds to me like a pep rally for intellectually challenged children.
The most disturbing thing in that whole thread comes earlier than this. A poster who goes by "Tiffany138" says, "...wear only skirts because God convicted me that pants are not for women."
I don't know what is more alarming, the fact that she believes that she must wear skirts and dresses the rest of her life of be damned to hell or her use of the word "convicted" instead of "convinced."
Sandman: No, she has used the word "convicted" in the right context.
Another meaning for the word is "To make aware of one's sinfulness or guilt." When a Fundie talks about "being convicted" they mean they feel like God is telling them they've done or thought the wrong thing. In this case, committing the heinous sin of wearing pants.
Yay, puritanical cheerleading! Maybe the cheerleaders chant Bible verses!
After that, the players will all take showers one by one, then head over to the local drive-in for some non-alcoholic celebration!

It one of those you cant do yeah you can do things .Typical of the bible
Exodus 15:20-21 yes you can dance
Exodus 32:19-21, 31 no dancing a sin
no it isn't Judges 11:34
oh yes it is Matthew 14:6-8
I sad it wasn't a sin to dance 2 Samuel 6:14
And I say it is so shut up Galatians 5:19-21
I could go on with the contradictions all day but who cares and beside this sure isn't the first time the bible had contradicting answers on the same subject
Mrs. Debbie is a dispicable hypocrite. In another thread she made it her point to vehemently oppose women being loud, boisterous or obnoxious, stating it was un ladylike and immodest. And here she is defending her daughter being a cheerleader because they did a lot of yelling, clapping their hands and stomping their feet. Contradict yourself much?
The poor thing probably yawned her head off at every game, too. I'm not a fan of sports myself, so I think that even regular cheerleading sounds fairly dull. But at least they get to move around, and get some excersize. And nobody has a fit if they feel like dancing, either.
What is an IFB school, anyway? Because it certainly sounds like Its Fucking Boring.
I suspect that Mrs Debbie doesn't want any female anywhere in the world to do anything to attract Bro Randy's eye.
Bro Randy constantly harps on about how women have no idea of the effect of their clothes on men, how hard it is to resist raping women when we lead them on etc.
It appears that even his own daughter is a lewd, saucy little temptress!
RE: IFB
IFB may refer to:
* Interruptible foldback
* Insurance Fraud Bureau
* Illinois Farm Bureau
* International Friends of Belize
* Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin
None of those sound right... *ponders* Probably [something] [something] Baptist.
Also, Bro. Randy is married to Mrs. Kellie, not Mrs. Debbie. Easy to get confused. I know I did.
IFB = Independent Fundamentalist Baptist; I think "independent" means each church is unaffiliated with other churches. Bro. Randy and Mrs. Debbie are what are often called "Landmark" Baptists. LBs believe a self-invented myth about tracing their church back to Jesus and being separate from Catholics and Catholic-derived Protestants. When a landmark Baptist says "Christian", they mean "Landmark Baptist"; they don't consider anyone else to be real Christians. LBs accept only the KJV Bible, which they cherry-pick and interpret literally when it suits their purpose. They are consistently bigoted and hateful toward almost everyone else - especially Roman Catholics - and are committed to pushing their beliefs into everyone else's faces.
I once met a guy who was an "old-fashioned" cheerleader, and his routine was actually quite fun to watch. Nothing dull about it, even though he wore clothes and didn't try to give the audience a hard-on with every breath he took.
IFB's are to fundies, what Hamburger U. is to McDonalds. They are the feeder farms for the brainwash factories like BJU, Oral Roberts, and Liberty.
The cheerleaders at my school would actually throw each other up into the air. While standing on a concrete floor. Even if they hadn't been practicing. [/qute]
The casuality rate must have been hilarious.
My, that's a lot of thought put into something so trivial. Hey, as long as they are over fifteen and have clothes on, it's fine, it's no more revealing than the players in the field, sweatting and moving about.

"So in other words, it was like a female Hitler Youth rally?"
You mean the Bund Deutcher Mädel?
We allowed our daughter to be a cheerleader because -
"It was at an IFB school."
I live in the UK and have no idea what IFB stands for.
"There was no dancing."
Kind of defeats the whole idea of cheerleading then...
"Culottes were worn."
Dunno what culottes are either, sorry my life was a bit sheltered... but by the tone of your message I assume they were large bulky shapeless objects to disguise the curves/gender/species of the wearer.
"Old fashioned cheerleading took place - yells and stomping of feet and clapping of hands.
There was no hip movement or sensual behavior."
So nobody would bother to watch then.
"Hand and foot movements wer crisp and precise - could not be mistaken for dancing."
Sorry to be pedantic but hand and foot movements ARE dancing.
@TW: "Dunno what culottes are either"
Knee-length, loose, short trousers. Like these...

Presumably chosen because they are not at all sexy.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
