pro-life woman: when i had a high risk pregnancy that could have killed me, no one was supportive of my refusal to abort and my doctors were cold to me

pro-life woman: i got pregnant in high school, and every one treated me like a dropout even though i worked hard to graduate

pro-life woman: no one told me about where i could get access to baby supplies, only where the closest PP was

pro-life woman: my doctor pressured me to abort when my unborn child was diagnosed with DS and i had a hard time finding a supportive OB/GYN

pro-life woman: i had to fight for my Title IX rights when i had a baby and my professor wouldn't let me redo a test i missed due to labor

pro-life woman: i really think abortion has negatively affected women's welfare for these reasons

pro-choicer: ummm actually, abortion has nothing to do with those things and pro-choicers care about other stuff besides abortion too????? so shut up :)

1) The pro-life crowd is incredibly two-faced on that front and your doctor is bound by oath to safeguard your life which depending on just how high the risk of complications on your pregnancy was ignoring anything he says about the danger could be tantamount to suicide. If you gave him a long sermon about choosing life and how horrible he is for considering abortion an option at all that would make him a lot less friendly too.

2) Is exactly the reason some women hide their pregnancies and abort in secret. Again I would die of shock if the majority of the people who shun you aren't pro life rather than pro choice particularly as pro choice is often on the receiving end of shaming tactics and are less hostile to the idea of an active sex life in general.

3) Then they answered your question. 97% of what Planned Parenthood does is provide information and services related to early childcare. If you're in the habit of hating something you know nothing about then not only are you kind of stupid but you're not in a position to talk smack about people not knowing what you go through.

4) Again, just how high risk is this pregnancy supposed to have been? I've never heard of any doctor doing what you're describing, especially not a gynecologist. I've heard plenty of the opposite happening. Don't tell me this entire list is just swapping yourselves into the place of people who describe what they go through when they opt for abortion, that's just pathetic and dishonest.

5) That... has absolutely fucking nothing to do with the choice/life argument, that's just a school being dickish. Might be an argument in there for systemic discrimination against women if they specifically consider pregnancy your own problem as opposed to being hospitalized for any other reason.

6) How would any of that shit have been affected by having an abortion? That statement is completely disjointed from everything said earlier.

Yup, doctors are usually not supportive of people wanting to risk their lives. Also, keeping the pregnancy going will be expensive. Who's going to pay for that?

Yup, having a kid that young will reduce your chances of a higher education. Sure, you might have graduated high school, but that's just the beginning of an education.

I don't know (not being American), but perhaps PP has baby supplies? Isn't it mostly about, ya know; PARENTHOOD? Also, if you're too dense to understand where to go for baby supplies (supermarkets and pharmacies carry things like that over here), perhaps you're too immature to have a kid?

Down's syndrome? OK, I give you this; you ought to be the one to decide whether to have a DS child or not. Just as long as you realize that the kid might be needing medical care all of its life, might never be able to care for itself, and will probably be bullied all its life, and are willing and able to face those challenges with your child.

Do you have the right to retake tests you've missed due to illness? If so, you ought to have the same right to retake them due to labor. Even though labor isn't really an illness, it leaves you pretty incapacitated.

The single most dangerous thing a woman can do is to be pregnant and give birth. Being able to decide the favorable time to do this dangerous thing, is not affecting negatively on women's welfare, no.

Doctors do not react well when their expert opinion is ignored in favor of superstition, no. Or for any other reason. My dentist was cold to me when i rejected a root canal and asked for an extraction instead.
However, when you say ‘no one supported’ you, you still had doctors, right: And no one held you down and forced an abortion to save your life? So… Your choice was supported by the pro-choice movement. Not celebrated, but you were supported.

Pressured. Did a panel of men in robes say you weren’t entitled to have that baby? Did you have to sneak across state lines to have the baby? You whine about pressure…

Judgmental people certain do suck, don’t they? Especially when they judge you as a slut, or your kid as a drain on society, and so on.

But you didn’t GET an abortion. You did what all these people insist you’re SUPPOSED to do, and they treat you like shit. The idea that you making your own decisions is a political position that we all get to vote on, THAT is what has affected you so badly.
