"American children read fairy tales such as Snow White with white male heroes; the trend continues.. in Hollywood"
This is crazy, why shouldn't white kids read about white heroes? Or do chinese parents read to their kids about Chinese or European heroes? I bet they read about Chinese characters. It's about healthy self-esteem, which is not our problem.

It's about healthy self-esteem
Heroes are heroes, no matter their skin colour.
But of course, insecure little whiners need to have white heroes. Hel, they even went as far as to whitewash Jesus.
Greek heroes were not pale-skinned blonds. The few heroes that would qualify are the old Norse heroes and their stories are decidedly not for children. Later stories can be used for just about any child. My wife is a fan of Wonder Woman and she is black. So, yes, you can take a different coloured hero as your model and it will still work wonders for you self-esteem.
Not exactly fundie or racist, but I bet if you let them expand they'll eventually get around to explaining why white kids shouldn't learn about heroes of other races, or even explaining why those characters aren't real heroes like the white characters.
You're absolutely right. But when a mixed-race, mixed-gender, mixed-sexuality society such as ours is presented with a mixed-race, mixed gender, mixed-sexuality group of superheroes in comic books or on TV, guess which portion of that mixed-race, mixed-gender, mixed-sexuality society has a collective cow about it? When you say "healthy self-esteem", you mean YOURS, and to hell with anybody else's esteem, right?
Captain Carrot, Alley-Kat-Abra, Pig-Iron, Yankee Poodle, Rubberduck, Fastback. Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, Donatello, Splinter. Miyamoto Usagi. Kelly O'Hare/Cutey Bunny. Erma Felna.
Your call.
Yeah, it's the jump from 'American children' to 'white kids' that's problematic.
All kids should read about all kinds of heroes. I would say it doesn't matter what sort of hero you read about, but that's not true. It means so much to see yourself represented, particularly when you're a minority. Just have your stories be accurately representative of demographics and everyone is happy.
Well, well, you'll be pleased to know that Cinderella was originally a Chinese story, hence the association of small feet with beauty. Her name was originally Ye Xian. Nee hau!
