it was called the dark ages because the lite of scripture was being hidden from the common people leaving them in the dark.

Yeah, there was a quote on here with a fundie saying about the same thing awhile ago. If they seriously believe that's why that period of time is called 'the dark ages' then... Well, they're definitely in the dark.
"it was called the dark ages because"
We call you a bullshitter because..
That left-handed cartoon is pretty much spot-on. I actually know someone who was sent to psychiatrists when he was 4 or 5 because he was - left handed! There are actually people who take things to that extreme, and apparently there are quotes about being left and right handed in the bible (be interesting if someone posted them). Obviously, if someone sits at the Right hand of the Father, and someone at the Left hand, it must make a difference, God has a different purpose for Left and Right and we humans have no RIGHT to change them.
#610064: "not that fundie"?!? This is a fundie archetype! His sense of history is completely reversed, causing him to wildly misinterpret the metaphor for the period being discussed, and he even tops it off by making grammar abuses -- that's three kinds of ignorance and stupidity masquerading as asserted knowledge. If that's not fundie, what the heck are your criteria for something to be able to qualify?

I always thought the dark ages were called that as historians didn't know much about that period of time?!
Though it would make sense with all the book burning (if it happened) that someone mentioned above.
My mam was forced to write with her right hand as using the left was seen as bad and this was goin gback late 60's, early 70's
No, it was called the dark ages because technological development, medical care, literacy, and wealth plummeted.
Left handed = evil
red hair = evil
cats = evil
women = evil
All thanks to your dark ages church.
Oh, and here's why it was called the dark ages.

The church controlled all information. they were the teachers, the professors, the philosophers, the people who spend their entire lives copying books, and thus controlled who could read what. And scripture was the least of what was controlled.
Ow. Just. Ow. Such complete historical ignorance as I have rarely seen before. I can't believe he actually believes that. It was the light of knowledge that was being oppressed by suffocating the people with a blanket of religious dogma. Do they teach ANYTHING about world history where he comes from? Or was he likewise suffocated with a blanket of religious dogma? Either way, that certainly wasn't an educated post to say the VERY least.
Edit: By the way. . . Like that graph Anti. I'm glad you posted it. I am saving it for future reference.
LOL, Ive heard that one before. No, its called the dark ages because no good writing or art came out of it. Modern historians now also tack on the fact that science was practically at a standstill during that time too.
So, dark ages = a period in the time of the middle ages that saw zero growth in the arts, writting, and science. The Dark Ages is also characterized by zealous religious law and absolute religious authority over every aspect of human culture.
Hope this helps.
