I oppose LGBT rights and lgbt "marriage" because 1) it's a threat to western culture and tradition and 2) it's not marriage

Oh I'm going to enjoy this. Please see yourself to the door after I'm done beating you down and taking apart your pathetic argument.
1. Explain to me your line of reasoning how me and mine having the right to marry is a threat to Western civilization?
How does it impact your quality of life? How does it impact your right to earn a living? To marry? To raise your children? How does it impact your ability to worship as you choose?
See, it doesn't. It doesn't impact you in any meaningful way except to shatter your delusions of religion having the right to dictate morality and define marriage. We gained the right to marry the people we love and are one step closer to equal rights in this country.
2. Marriage is a secular instituion. It is overseen by the government and not the various faiths. It's the government who sets the laws, benefits, and actual rules of the institution. It's the government who oversees divorce. Marriage is a legal contract with practical benefits once you strip away the romantic imagery and religious traditions.
Agnostics, atheists, irreligious people, and the like can and do marry. The Supreme Court (a government body!) legalized the marriage of non-heterosexual couples earlier this year. We can marry bitch and there's not a damn thing you can do about it.
For a while in European history, marriage had a significant religious component, once the clergy got involved in the Middle Ages. As far as I know, that's one Catholic innovation that early Protestants never challenged, so a lot of people think marriage has always been a religious institution. But marriage only had a vague connection with religion in early Christianity, and the Catholic Church only declared it an official sacrament in 1184.
You could even say that by decoupling marriage from religious requirements, modern Western societies have taken back a custom that Christianity arrogated for itself. Of course, marriages in pre-Christian times did not involve same-sex couples (with some uncertain or marginal exceptions), but then, marriages in ancient times often did not involve love, even as an ideal, and usually treated women as chattel. Marriage is what we CHOOSE it to be, and it always has been.
Anyone else unnerved that the OP laments "socialism and progressivism" stopped scorched earth/total warfare and fucking WITCH BURNINGS?!
That's creepier than the whole memorized "gay marriage will destroy Western civilization!" whine. This dude literally wants to burn women...
@ Kid Cthulhu
I saw that, but because the guy's post is so terse and nobody in the discussion thread seems to have followed up on it, I wasn't entirely sure if that was what he meant to say. If it was, that's obviously a whole higher level of revolting-ness.
1. "Lucifer" is Latin for "bringer of light"; "luciferus" could be an attempt to say "wild light" but, in fact it means nothing because "lux" (light) is feminine and the adjective must agree.
2. In Latin, the adjective usually comes after the noun. The same applies to "mortuus" as a past participle.
The phrase you'd be looking for is "Lucifer mortuus est."

Perhaps without "socialism and 'progressivism'," you'd be a galley slave.
Thanks to socialism and "progressivism".
Pffft! Social "advancement", equality, "do unto others", so-called modern critical thinking . . . woo woo. And book larnin'.
We miss the old stonings and the rack. Those were the Good Ol' Days, by God.
Someone who names themselves after Lucifer, with a first names based off the latin for death, has a problem with gays?
Did your friends ar natonstates think your screen name shocking or something? With that attitude, it is laughable.
Actually it 'did' get followed up on briefly, but Morontuus dodged the question.

He wants teh gays jailed for being indecent in public, but not stoned.
He believes marriage is between one man and one woman because we did it that way two centuries ago.
and teh evil gheys want to ruin everything for the lulz. (Read. Ruin his culture and tradition by choosing to get married)
He claims not to be a fundementalist, but a 'traditionalist.'

Fuck you with a branding iron.
You do realize it's optional, don't you? You don't have to marry someone of the same sex. Of course, that automatically disqualifies you from commenting on the matter, because someone else's marriage is just absolutely none of your business. Your opinion will not be required.
I just checked out this joker's page. No offense, but I was wondering if he was being quote mined. It's legit.
Also, he identifies as anti Israel/Jewish on his topic despite also being a Christian. Yes, I know he's not the only one who thinks that, but I get a chuckle out of every person I see like that.

- Does he laments the lack of scorched earth and witchburnings, or does he blame scorched earth and witchburnings on socialism/progressivism ?

Oh, to have a time machine to send this idiot back to Magdeburg on May 20th, 1631 !
1) no, it isn't.
2) yes it is.
Wait, you are pro-witch burning and scorched earth tactics? I think Luciferus is a fine name for such a horrid individual.
So do you want soldiers to act like medieval monsters and slaughter the peasants and burn the farms?
Do you want witch hunts to happen?
Socialism didn't cause those things to stop happening, rationality, empathy, and common sense stopped those things from happening on a wide scale in the modern world, three traits you apparently seem to lack.
"I oppose LGBT rights and lgbt "marriage" because 1) it's a threat to western culture and tradition"
Spartans. Alexander the Great. Your call.
...you may now also become my slave ; according to the Bible, 'God' approves of that, therefore it's tradition . NEXT!

So, are war crimes against civilians and burning people for the "crime" of witchcraft good things? If so, then go back to the Middle Age!
You're right. Those things ARE due to "progressivism." And it's awesome.
The wars of the Twentieth Century were so horrifying in their brutality and scope that all but the craziest people stepped back and decided we had to do something, and it was done. International agreements, treaties and pacts helped us to define what was and was not acceptable conduct in wartime. Unintentionally or otherwise, globalism and worldwide trade helped tie the economic destinies of different nations together, so that they would help safeguard each other's interests out of mutual self-interest, since anything else was national suicide. And our technology became more and more precise, to greatly limit the collateral damage when force of arms was needed. Scorched-Earth warfare isn't needed anymore. Our fighting forces are more effective without it.
Only psychopaths like you long for a return to the good old days of total war.
As for "burning witches..." considering your username, I'd be careful about gushing with the nostalgia over the witch-hunts. They usef to kill Luciferians that way too.
Confused?
