I think that most atheists are just exercising (and, in my opinion, wasting) their free will to pretend God does not exist, like some obstinate second grader who refuses to acknowledge the existence of arithmetic tables because mastering this academic tool is not as fun as playing kickball or hopscotch.

The second grader still knows that arithmetic tables exist, just is too lazy to learn them.
We on the other hand cannot know if (any) god exists. Even if we knew for sure, that there is/are some divine entity/ies, we wouldn´t know if it is the hgod of the people of the abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) or if it is/are the gods connected to another religion/s or maybe god/s connected to no special religion at all ;)

On the other hand your example makes a good analogy to christian fundamentalists and evolution...
like the second grader, christian fundamentalists claim that evolution doesn´t exist because they are too lazy to learn and understand the scientific principles behind them and instead just claim that the things written in their holy book are right, because you don´t need to think to understand them.

So in order to not 'waste' our free will we need to think exactly like you? Then what the fuck is the point of free will?

Pretend? You're the one who's pretending here. As I've said before, it's no coincidence that god always happens to agree with the values of the believer.

We're not the ones answering every difficult question in life (both academic and philosophical) with a fucking cop-out answer of "magic man did it" or "god agrees with me". I'm not saying all theists are out playing hopscotch either (in fact many great scientists were theists) but there are all too many who are, i.e. creationists. There is no academic value to god and the more honest and intelligent theists will acknowledge that and at best call him an inspiration but they'll NEVER try to use him as an academic tool.

Oh, we Atheists don't need to pretend that a 'God' doesn't exist. We know one doesn't.

After all, to prove us wrong, to our satisfaction, all you 'God' has to do is to appear to us in hard, solid, physical form that can be seen, heard and touched. Also, to prove he is what he says he is, via demonstrations of his power, again to our satisfaction (and in my case, if that means he has to do whatever I say in perpetuity, so be it).

That's all he has to do. Should be a piece of piss, compared to creating a universe, this world & all the life on it. Amirite?

But to date, he hasn't. Therefore, we Atheists can only conlude one thing:

'God' doesn't exist. Ergo, Atheism. QED.

Unlike the delusion that is fundie 'belief', based on the fairytale that is the Bible.

Now who's the one pretending?

Presumably, J.Sarcopage is a master of gullibility. No doubt he exercises total belief in something for which there can be no evidence. He is a fully qualified faith-head. Why he even attempts to justify his world view is beyond me. Surely his faith is enough? Or perhaps it's not? Not for him the wasteful drudgery of thinking, his preference is to squander his free will and surrender it to the baleful sway of malign forces that seek to use him and his stupidity. He slavishly consigns himself into the hands of his manipulators.

Worshiping God is really worshiping a collection of evil manipulative men who have deliberately fooled him for their own ends.
