Because, as it stands, most of the evidence of which I am aware is clearly in favor of the new Russian laws. Note that the bans were unanimously adopted and are much more democratically popular than homogamy is in the United States. Regardless, the pendulum is clearly in the process of beginning to swing back, and if Russia's nationalists manage to reverse the nation's demographic decline, it will be a powerful argument against the sexual equalitarians, especially if the West whose corrupting influences it has rejected continues to decline.
The West won the Cold War because its economic values were in line with reality and the Soviet Union's were not. Perhaps having learned from past mistakes, Russia appears to be more likely to win the Cold Peace because its moral values are in line with reality and the West's are not.

It's funny how these bigots are praising Russia and other nations for persecuting gay people, and yet if the situation were reversed, and Christians were the ones being persecuted, they'd be the first ones to call for boycotts and Western intervention.
I love how many conservative "patriots" are suddenly willing to throw their lot in with an ex-KGB commie just because he doesn't like gay people. Especially since they were the same people who took Obama's "I'll have more flexibility after the election" to either Putin or Medvedev (I can't remember which) as evidence of his sinister intentions. After every advance for human and civil rights, there is a backlash as the reactionary forces are fighting to drag us back to the dark ages.
What demographic decline? Earth is dangerously over-populated; we need to reduce the population drastically. As those of us are in favor of human rights are also against murder and executions, the only way is to have fewer kids.

Actually; the Soviet Union collapsed because the right-wing authoritarians running the show were stupid enough to spend their treasure occupying Afghanistan and building bombs instead of schools and roads. Now, apparently, it's our turn.
The part that makes me sad is that we could provide free education through college, provide free health care from cradle to grave, develop green energy to its full potential, still spend as much or more on arms as any single country on earth, and still pay off the national debt. Alas. Our own right-wing authoritarians won't allow that to happen.

Public support is not evidence, political support is not evidence. Also, the reason there is uniformity of law in Russia, as opposed to our non-uniformity, is the centralized organization of their government while we have states and less centralized authority.

I have had this hope that Russia would Europeanize or something but this alliance between their goverment and the Russian orthodox church is a sign of backwards bullshit taking over again. What's worse than Communism? Christian totalitarism, every fucking time.

Vox, be consequent. In the Soviet Union, laws against homosexuality were as draconian, if not more, against homosexuality than they're now. Following your line of reasoning, we can conclude that the Soviet Union collapsed, therefore, those laws are not good. You can't change your arguments when they fit to you.
