As I said, I don't go to gay bars, and the particular incident I described occured in a normal bar. I understand why you would be flattered--you're a woman, and women are attention whores. That's a scientifically proven fact.

Well, if you want to be scientific about it:
It's kind of hard to be any kind of whore if you're not getting paid by a number of different people.
That said, if guys like this dork would gawk a little less obviously, they might be halfway to solving said "attention whore" problem :)
In science we do not 'prove' something. The evidence leads us to conclude that something is likely. There is always room for improvement/replacement if new evidence is found.
Here is some real science for you.
If you are using the big-five model of personality; extroversion/introversion is one of the factors used to analyse personality. They do not use seperate scales for men and women, so no significant differences would have been found when designing this model. Conclusion, on average women do not seek attention more than men.
Perhaps your experience in bars is biased? The women you run into are probably not representative of all women. Those who are more introverted may be less likely to go to bars. They may also be less likely to be noticed as they are not drawing attention to themselves.

Women are more social. Attention whores is an extreme place to take that.
