A MARTA bus driver is on suspension following allegations that he forced passengers to pray before allowing them to exit the bus.
Christopher James was one of those passengers. James said, initially, he thought something was wrong when he rang the bell to get off the bus and the door didn’t open.
James said the bus driver asked him and three other passengers to join hands in prayer. James said the driver prayed with the group for about four minutes.

At first I thought that if I were on that bus, I'd force my way off or something, but then I thought: This is a religious nut. A religious nut who might have a gun and be willing to use it on heathens.
So now I'm not so sure. It's not like that sort of thing never happens, so as much as I'd like to stay true to my principles, I might have prayed to appease the crazy man until he let me off.
Living in the UK, the idea of the driver having a gun really wouldn't occur to me. Don't you guys have those nifty emergency-levers above the doors on your buses?
I'd probably ask to leave, and if I was refused, I'd call the police on my mobile phone cellphone. See how long his determination to force people to pray holds out.
Why would they even go along with that? I would have pulled out my phone and threatened to call the police if he didn't let me out. This psycho should lose his job.
I bet the fundies are cheering on this "wonderful, biblical" man, and going on about how he'll have mansions and crowns in heaven. Unless he's Muslim, of course, in which case they'd label him a terrorist and advocate the death penalty.
I would have called 911 and filed kidnapping charges against the idiot.
It's a fucking bus not a mobile church, you idiot!
If MARTA is like the MBTA, it's a government agency. The T is funded by the state, so a driver doing that would be way out of bounds. After the driver gets shit-canned, someone should file suit against the Transit Authority for violation of separation of church and state.
THAT'S why I'm late sir, the stupid bus driver wanted to pray at every fucking stop. I agree, he should be fired, not me.
If it was Detroit, what the hell. One could always pray to Darwin, or Zeus, or whomever, and do it out loud.
@Moondog
As someone who's very recently gone from taking MARTA to taking the T (thank goodness for moves!) I had to pipe up.
MARTA, to my memory, does not receive state operational funding, and has been in a huge controversies about the sheer amount of fail on wheels and rail due to mostly a lack of funding. Of course, offers of state funding have been made, but that would require the corrupt bastards to open their books to state and public scrutiny.
I am more than happy to now be riding the state funded T now. Cleaner, more reliable, takes to you more places, and sure as shit less likely to have dumbasses like this working for them.
I mean, who's got time to pray on a bus in this city? We've got places to get to.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
