Gays can have a civil partnership which has the EXACT SAME BENEFITS as marriage, they're fighting over a title. Besides that we shouldn't have to conform to a small group of people, let's step back and look at a hypothetical scenario. There are only three Muslim people in America. They say that it's against their religion to wear skimpy clothes in, let's say, a gym class they're in. Does that mean that every single school should change their women's gym attire for those three people? Should even that one school do that? Let me ask you something, Atheists. What year is it?
...2008? Guess who that system's based off of. Christians start few wars and if you're talking about the Crusades, Christians and Jews held Jerusalem. Muslims came in and killed everyone because they were taking it for the 'religion of peace'. If you're driving in your car with a concealed pistol and someone walks up, shanks you, and drives away, what would YOU do? We don't take the Bible literally, if you'd ever read it and been to a church you'd know. It's the moral of the stories. Funny, I'm talking about morals on an Atheists forum. If you're Atheist, that's fine by me. But don't act all high and mighty and attempt flaming Christians and Christianity because you don't believe in their God, unless you want people to make you look like an idiot. Remember, you're supposed to post about ATHEISM in the ATHEISM forum, NOT HOW MUCH YOU HAVE CHRISTIANS.

"and if you're talking about the Crusades, Christians and Jews held Jerusalem."
Um. The Muslims had it first, you moron. You Christians attacked Jerusalem to try and 'reclaim the Holy Land' from the filthy heathen Muslims.
"NOT HOW MUCH YOU HAVE CHRISTIANS."
...C'mon, man, the T and V keys are on the opposite side of the keyboard. How did you typo that?
Granted, a forum about "having" Christians (knowwhatImean knowwhatImean nudge nudge say no more) sounds a bit more exciting. And obviously the first sentence isn't true, or nobody would care as much about the issue.
Hm,
you dare to mention Jerusalem?
If I remember correcly it were the christian knights of the crusades who slaughtered the inhabitants of muslim (or suspected muslim) origin, so that they waded knee deep in blood (whereas before the crusades muslims, christians ands jews lived peacefully together in the city)
It was the muslim Saladin who behaved much more human towards the inhabitants of Jerusalem than the christian crusaders did, (even granting all those christian inhabitants free withdrawal who could pay a ransom).
Gays can have a civil partnership which has the EXACT SAME BENEFITS as marriage, they're fighting over a title.
Damn straight. What's wrong with wanting the same treatment as everybody else?
we shouldn't have to conform to a small group of people.
Oh right, because christians are 90% of the U.S. population.
Does that mean that every single school should change their women's gym attire for those three people?
Yes, insofar as allowing that those three people and anyone else with beliefs like them can wear what they believe is right. What is it with you extremists? It wouldnt be that EVERYBODY has to wear full body coverings, only the people who chose to. Just like you wouldnt be forced to get gay married, it would just be an option open for those who felt the urge to choose it.
I for one am sure that ignoramuses like you will never succeed in letting anyone look like an idiot, that's excluding yourselves ofcourse.
Please get it into your thick skull that gay people gaining a right doesn't mean you are robbed of one ... unless you mean the right you claim of robbing others of rights because they don't subscibe to your sky daddy fantasy.
Wake up... you don't have that right, not anymore, not since people stopped doing what they where told by the Pope, Martin Luther, Calvin, Mohammed etc etc ... and started to think for themselves.
Fundie: ... let's step back and look at a hypothetical scenario. There are only four gay people in America. They say that they want to get married. Does that mean that every single person should start marrying people of the same sex for those four people?
Rational Person: But they only want to marry each other. They don't want you to marry someone of the same sex. How does that affect you?
BTW: gay ? atheist - some gays are better Christians than the bigoted, pecksniffing evangelicals who criticize them.
Let me ask you something, Atheists. What year is it? ...2008? Guess who that system's based off of.
Can easily be reset to zero, y'know.
The laws do not change for religion, even Islam.
Yeah, it's based off when some idiot mis-guessed Christ's birth. It's off by at least 5 years.
YEAH IF THIS IS AN ATHEISM FORUM PACK UP YOUR RELIGION AND GET THE HELL OFF YOU STUPID HIPPOCRITE.
"What year is it?
...2008? Guess who that system's based off of."
So what, a calendar system hardly proves you right. I'd have you know that there has throughout the ages been thousands of different calendar systems.
And for your little analogy, well it's as broken as it possibly can be.
"Does that mean that every single school should change their women's gym attire for those three people?"
No. But those for whom it is against their religion to wear skimpy clothes should be allowed to dress the way they feel is appropriate, shouldn't they?
The point of your entire first paragraph is that one belief system shouldn't be allowed to infringe upon the rights of others. Isn't that what the proponents of gay marriage are saying?
I'm not even going to bother with the second paragraph, because it's far too incoherent for me to attempt to glean some sort of message from it right now.
"Let me ask you something, Atheists. What year is it?
...2008? Guess who that system's based off of."
There's more than just the Gregorian and Julian calendars you know. It's the year 5768 by the Hebrew calendar.
"Gays can have a civil partnership which has the EXACT SAME BENEFITS as marriage, they're fighting over a title. "
Actually, from what i can gather most places in the USA that offer civil partnerships don't have the same benefits as marriage. Now in the UK for example, you won't hear anyone moaning about the lack of gay marriage because civil unions offer the exact same benefits as marriage.
In his defense, regarding "having" Christians, he may have been using a mobile phone browser with a standard keypad, been using predictive text, and meant to type "hate", but forgot to cycle through all the words that can be made with the 4, 2, 8, and 3 keys, in that order. "Have" is the first word that appears when I press those keys with predictive text enabled.
Or, he could, y'know, just be an idiot.
"...to a small group of people..."
do you have any idea how many homosexuals there are? your hypothetical scenario was a bit drastic. and i don't hate christians. i visit this site because people like you think that bashing other peoples religions makes yours a better one.
Numb nuts, civil partnership doesn't hold the same legal rights.
And even if it did, "seperate but equal" is fucking unconstitutional. Go back to 1950 or so and STFU.
"Gays can have a civil partnership which has the EXACT SAME BENEFITS as marriage, they're fighting over a title"
Except for social security suvivorship, and filing a married tax return, and portability from one state to another, shall I go on?
Besides that we shouldn't have to conform to a small group of people, let's step back and look at a hypothetical scenario. There are only three christian people in America. They say that it's against their religion to learn about biology let's say, a science class they're in. Does that mean that every single school should change their biology curriculum for those three people? Should even that one school do that? Let me ask you something, Christianists. What year is it?
Correct, it's 2008, not 1008.
way off on that one, kiddo! The crusades were held to take the holy land from the people who had lived there for nearly a thousand years.
And as far as the Muslims in gym class? All that would be required is for all schools to allow them to wear what they think is suitable attire, not have everyone conform to their restrictions.
It takes nothing from you and gives them what they need to feel equal. What are you afraid of?
If you are actually attempting to do some sort of argument by dating system, you have already lost.
For the record though, I don't hate christians, not even the evangelicals.
I do hate people that claim that homosexuals and muslims have less rights than they do.
I hate people tainting our education system with creationism and abstinance only health ed.
I hate religious people that are reponsible for the spread of aids and teen pregnancy.
I hate people who care more for a blob of jelly than a living breathing woman.
That describes evil to me.
If it describes "christian" to you...
//Gays can have a civil partnership which has the EXACT SAME BENEFITS as marriage, they're fighting over a title.//
Separate but equal was ruled unconstitutional a long time ago, buckaroo.
//There are only three Muslim people in America. They say that it's against their religion to wear skimpy clothes in, let's say, a gym class they're in. Does that mean that every single school should change their women's gym attire for those three people? Should even that one school do that?//
First off, what school allows skimpy clothing?
Secondly, we practically already do serve the few at the expense of the whole in another area: health. Many schools, at least in my area, no longer serve peanut butter because one or two kids have severe allergies to peanuts.
//What year is it?//
By which calendar? There are dozens to use. By the way, Christian, what day is it? The Sun's day? And what month is it? Juno's?
Gays can have a civil partnership which has the EXACT SAME BENEFITS as marriage, they're fighting over a title.
That argument makes rather more sense when we throw it back at you; why are you so emphatic that essentially identical processes should be known by different names based on who they are applied to? That's like the whole "separate but equal" bullshit they had during racial segregation. If you're equal, why go to the extra trouble to separate?
There are far more than three Muslims in America. Far, far more. They are free to dress as they please, as is everybody else. That is the idea of freedom and democracy.
And... atheists magically give birth to Christians? Thats an interesting typo.
No, the Christians attacked Jerusalem to capture it in the First Crusade.
Then the Second Crusade was called to defend the Crusader Kingdoms.
And the Third was called to reclaim it because the muslims recaptured it.
And all the others were failures to do something similar to the third (or first).
I am so sick of the "gays want us to change" bile.
You know what homophobes need to do about gay marriage? Butt out and don't marry a gay. You're not being asked to change anything. You're expending more energy on hating people than on loving your neighbour like the morals in the Bible say you should.
Turn the other cheek, you shit.
"they're fighting over a title"
Guess who's fighting back.
Your hypothetical scenario fails. You are asking whether the vast majority should change their own behavior or appearance to satiate a small minority's viewpoint. We obviously should not. However, that is not what the issue is. The issue is providing a right to marriage for previously unrecognized relationships, which will not require a change of behavior for anyone else.
Also, har har, atheists have no morals since atheists don't have any magical allegories to teach them how to behave.
"Gays can have a civil partnership which has the EXACT SAME BENEFITS as marriage, they're fighting over a title."
First off, they can't. There is not a single American state that gives civil unions or other such partnerships with full marriage rights. Second, marriage is a legal term. Homosexual couples have as much right to it as you do.
"NOT HOW MUCH YOU HAVE CHRISTIANS"
It's not easy to type a V when you want a T. I think this guy really meant to say "have Christians." Perhaps there's some sort of underground slavery where atheists own Christians. If so, this guy shoul notify the police instead of arguing online.
As for the Muslims being at fault for taking Jerusalem from the Christians, I guess World War II was a mistake also, since the Allies were trying to take back the Germans' land- Czechoslovakia, Poland, etc.
More appropriate analogy: There are 10 members of a club, 9 are Christians, 1 is Muslim. It's against the Muslim's religion to eat pork. Therefore, he should be allowed the right to not eat it if he doesn't want to.
ask a true atheist what year it is and they will say something around 1212450749 (unix time) because Stallman is love and all need to accept his unconditional love
only a false atheist will say the year is 2008
Gays can have a civil partnership which has the EXACT SAME BENEFITS as marriage, they're fighting over a title.
Yeah, how did "separate but equal" work out the last time we tried that?
Besides that we shouldn't have to conform to a small group of people, let's step back and look at a hypothetical scenario. There are only three Muslim people in America. They say that it's against their religion to wear skimpy clothes in, let's say, a gym class they're in. Does that mean that every single school should change their women's gym attire for those three people? Should even that one school do that?
No, we let them wear their burkas.
Gay marriage doesn't stop anyone from getting strait married.
Let me ask you something, Atheists. What year is it?
The last time I checked, it was 2008, but the way you're talking, it sounds like 1312.
One -- No, they can't, and that's why they're pushing for MARRIAGE.
Two -- The Muslims should be allowed to modify the gym outfit, to a certain degree, to make it comfortable for them (e.g. long sleeves, long pants).
Three -- Wrong again. The CHRISTIANS invaded the "Holy Land" and "liberated" it from the Muslims.
If you're driving in your car with a concealed pistol and someone walks up, shanks you, and drives away, what would YOU do?
"I tell you this. If a man skanks you, and asks for your cash, give him your credit card as well."
Confused?
