Ah, the old "I don't hate gays, I know a gay person" argument. I don't know any Chilean* people, I still think they deserve human rights on the grounds that they are humans. My knowing or not knowing someone has no bearing on that person's equal rights.
Yes, the surest way to increase hatred against gays is to do what happens now in the US; the Westboro Baptist Church picketing children's funerals, people infringing on the human rights of gays, prohibition of gay marriage and adoption, etc. The more you discriminate against a group, the more people feel that it's OK to discriminate against that group. Acceptance and tolerance breeds acceptance and tolerance, at least in normal, decent people. Fascists seem to become more intolerant, as the acceptance towards gay people grows in society.
I have never, ever, heard anyone promoting the idea that homosexuality is more cool than heterosexuality. It's merely two natural variations of sexual orientation, neither is cooler than the other.
Homosexuality was removed from mental disorder category decades ago; please keep up with the times.
You wouldn't know the truth if it danced around naked in front of you wearing a jester's belled hat.
* I had to ponder this for a while; in my former workplace, we had 15 different nationalities in my department alone, I know people from China, Zambia, New Zeeland, Australia, India, Pakistan, Egypt, Norway, Denmark, US of A, Great Britain, Ireland, Belgium, Germany, etc, etc, etc, but I don't think I know anyone from Chile. (Excessive explanation over.)
