[On women being permitted in combat]
This war doesn’t involve only women who have volunteered to serve in our military. It’s a real war against all 18-year-old American girls, because for the first time in our nation’s history they will be required to sign up for the draft and be ready for a letter from Selective Service ordering them to report for military duty.

FWIW, the USA hasn't conscripted soldiers since some time in the 1970's or so. but it still retains a rump institution for starting a conscription system back up again, in case of need. apart from sending one letter to the government on each boy's 18th birthday or thereabouts, this system has no practical impact on everyday life in the USA.
oh, well, apparently it also sends largely-insane reactionary blowhard commentators into occasional tizzies. but that's only good for poking fun at them online.
They won't be, because men won't be either. Conscription today is a contingency plan - that means the only way a draft could happen is if the military power of US Forces would not be enough - and by alliances almost that of the entire Western World. Short of full-fledges alien invasion, none of this is going to happen.
Btw, even if women were forced to fight too, why would that be wrong?
And for the first time in history, women are allowed to be bosses of men in the workplace. Although that happened in 1970.
And for the first time in history, niggers are allowed to vote. Although that happened in 1866.
Your point?
I think women are just as capable as men to serve in the armed forces.
@Paler_Face: In America, if we ever have a full scale war, there is a draft were all eligible men (and now, women) serve in the armed forces. In peacetime, we have professional soldiers.
The draft ended in 1973. That is 40 years ago exactly.
Your desperation to be outraged at something - anything is showing.
That aside, though I personally don't feel called to military service I support my sisters who do. They have to put up with sexual discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual assault, condescension, and attitudes like yours every day of their service. If that doesn't make them tough enough for combat, please explain what does. They don't just have to go into a fight with a gun, they have to do it knowing that once that battle is over they'll face an even tougher one for equality of pay, equality of benefits and simple respect.
Stop being part of the fucking problem by promoting outdated ideas that make things even tougher for women who serve.
Your Founding Fathers believed wars would be reduced if the people who would be affected by war have a vote about war.
Individuals whocan vote for war without themselves facing the risk of fighting in that war are a clear danger to the peace of mankind.
@ Prager
Although people have not been drafted for decades, all american males are still required to register for selective service(the draft) between their eighteenth and twenty-sixth birthday.
They don't, but if they did, they would register and then...get on with their lives as they did before. No women's bodies or freedoms are touched in the process, so it doesn't even rank as a skirmish compared to the full-scale offensive you are waging against women.

I suspect that, were missus Schlafly given her way, she would solve this by removing womens suffrage.
It could happen. So what? If the country is under attack, they're going to be just as dead as men. In Israel, where they actually are under attack, they've always drafted women.
I could go either way on this issue. I believe in equality, so part of me says that both men and women should be required to sign up for the draft. However, another part of me is unsure if that really is fair, since women face an exponentially higher risk of being sexually assaulted in the military than men.
Better to just do away with the draft altogether.
@GigaGuess: I'm just amazed she hasn't exploded from the sheer amount of crazy and backwardness that's all stuffed up inside her by now. I would've thought that the recent rulings from the Supreme Court on gay marriage might've been enough to send her into a final meltdown by now, if the lifting of the combat-ban on women hadn't already.
Wait a sec... PHYLLIS Schlafly? She's still around and posting?
Also, the draft was abolished. She's just trying to stir something up where there's nothing to stir.
@facepalm
"Holy crap, that old witch is still alive?"
Yep. Even this dried-up & dessiccated old harpy has outlived the inferior subhuman waste of DNA/oxygen & basis of my more than infinite hatred of everything and everyone right-wing, the real Antichrist Maggie Thatcher (*spit *). 'Ding Dong, the witch is dead ! '
Your turn will come soon hopefully USA, in terms of equally vile subhuman slime: Fred Phelps or Phyllis Schaftafly? Place your bets...!
If conscription is ever reinstated, I'd expect it to extend to anyone who was fit to serve in the military, regardless of gender. Put us through the same tests they give men, and if we pass, let us serve.
So all the women in Team USA shouldn't appear in the parade of nations during the opening ceremony of the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympics, Phyllis Schaftafly? Indeed: they shouldn't even leave for Brazil, amirite?!
...so more medals for the women in Team GB then...?!
Oh, and on the subject of the teams' entry in the Maracana Stadium in around 48 hours: does someone else want to give her spawn Andy the bad news or shall I...?! >:D
...or were you sticking your fingers in your ears - whilst in the fetal position; all the while rocking back & forth - shouting 'LA-LA-LA! I CAN'T HEAR YOU!' all the while the Men's Singles Final was going on at Wimbledon this year?!
Confused?
