I really hate it when atheists I know try to act like they look down on me for believing in God. Saying shit like they didn't know I was one of those weak minded people who needs to cling to some imaginary God for strength. Fuck that, and fuck anyone who thinks that. You know what I think? I think it shows MORE strength of character to hold onto your belief in things unseen, like God. It takes more will and mind power to believe in something purely on faith, something that CAN'T be proved, to stand up against science and atheists and anyone else who says your wrong. If you don't believe in God, and you believe in science...WOW, you believe it because science says it is so and there's all this proof. You need to see to believe -- you have no faith. Isn't that weaker? Isn't THAT the real lacking, to not be able to believe in something without seeing it yourself.
That's just an answer to all the people who come at me like that. Personally, I really don't care what anyone else believes. You have your beliefs, I have mine, and as long as your beliefs aren't detrimental to my life or the lives of others, go on with your bad self. But do me that same favor, leave me to my beliefs without your snide little comments or condescending attitude.

I'll leave you with your beliefs if you stop butting into peoples religious, personal, political, or any other lives.
Oh, and WTF.
Yes, evangelizing atheists are annoying. But at least they have the evidence to back their claims.
I say that evangelizing deists are far more annoying AND dangerous, but regular people that keep their beliefs to themselves are fine.
Also: HURRR persecution.
I suppose I'm with you on the evangelizing part; if I don't like it when Christians do it, I can't blame you for not liking it when atheists do it.
HOWEVER, are you really saying that you're stronger than I am because you can believe fairy tales on willpower alone?
I don't see how it takes more willpower to be one of the majority of Human beings on Earth who believe what they believe only because they are indoctrinated into it at an early age. It's brainwashing pure and simple. But, if you went against your parents and society to end up with your belief in god that's another matter and I do have respect for people who think things out rationally and objectively before they come to any belief.
However, your argument is quite flawed. Especially the part where you make science into a belief system. It's the study of the observable universe and it comes to conclusions based on hard facts which you can see for yourself and is reviewed by the greatest minds we have. For example, if science shows you how the world is round, but your faith tells you it's flat, you can review the facts that has lead to that conclusion since the days of Ancient Greece and then walk around the Earth yourself. To deny the existence of a round Earth in light of this is not the act of a strong willed person, but instead the act of a stupid person. However, science cannot prove the existence of a higher power or not, so my belief that there isn't one and your belief that there is may be based off the knowledge we gain from science, but ultimately stands apart from it.
I would also question where exactly you get your faith from. Are you Christian or do you simply believe in a higher power apart from organized religion? Christians form their faith off of a 2000 year old book and hope that the Humans who wrote it weren't like the countless other Human writers in history who wrote other mythologies and modern day religions. To me that is highly irrational behavior and the reason for my atheism. However, if one were to simply believe in the possibility of higher powers that do not influence Humanity, that has as much ground to stand on as atheism. It also would give someone hope that they can live on after death without having to buy into the religious mumble jumbo countless religions would try to sell you. But, either way I agree with your last paragraph. People who preach to others/insult you simply because you tell them that you believe something else is completely uncalled for and annoying.
Right, so basically you reserve the right to wallow in shit, but then equally bitch about people commenting about the stench.
And you acknowledge there's proof? You acknowledge they're right. Yet still you cling to some imaginary God for strength. Wanna think about that for a bit?
The atheist sees the "Bridge Out" sign and stops.
The theist sees that there is a sign, but doesn't bother to read it, takes it on faith that the bridge is actually there, and keeps right on going.
This isn't really much a measure of strength as much as stubbornness.
Fuck you, what a nice language. And yes, a Christian man is not necessarily weak minded but honestly, analyse it carefully. If your knowledge is dependent on somebody else blindly is a sign of no personality. It´s supposedly what happens with religion, and don´t pretend it didn´t have terrible consequences. After all, it was Jesus who said that you can´t love a God you can´t see if you don´t love your neighbour, who you can see. That alone debunks your argument.
Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck that, and fuck you. I really don't care what anyone else believes.
O Really?
Yeah, it does take a strong person to keep faith in that which doesn't exist, but why would you even want to do it? Are you a glutton for punishment? You want to feel 'persecuted'? Or do you envy the homeless people who make similar claims to imaginary friends?
No, it's easier to believe what you're told. That's just human nature. It takes NO effort at all to be a mindless sheep. Just look at anyone who watches Oprah. Now thinking for yourself...that's hard. Especially in the face of mindless sheep like you who stand up and deride them for actually LOOKING for answers as opposed to blindly accepting made-up sky fairies and such.
Oh, and on a related note, belief and faith aren't necessarily the same thing. You can believe in science and have faith in god. It's one of those wonderful things human beings are able to do, to believe things that may even contradict each other.
"I really hate it when atheists I know try to act like they look down on me for believing in God."
They are probably not acting.
"Saying shit like they didn't know I was one of those weak minded people who needs to cling to some imaginary God for strength."
So, you admit that you are weak-minded and clinging to your imaginary friend?
"Fuck that, and fuck anyone who thinks that."
No, thank you.
"You know what I think?"
No, I'm not at all sure that you DO think.
"I think it shows MORE strength of character to hold onto your belief in things unseen, like God."
Certainly it requires some force of will to contend that the patently ridiculous is true. It would take a great deal of energy and will power to go through life insisting that black is white, but that doesn't make it true.
"It takes more will and mind power to believe in something purely on faith, something that CAN'T be proved, to stand up against science and atheists and anyone else who says your wrong."
Indeed, but no matter the energy or will power involved in maintaining a belief, the facts are still the facts.
"If you don't believe in God, and you believe in science...WOW, you believe it because science says it is so and there's all this proof."
Yes, I rely on science and not some fictional god because "there's all this proof" supporting science and no proof supporting a god.
"You need to see to believe"
My vision is OK.
"you have no faith."
True. Faith is belief in an assertion without any evidence supporting that assertion. Faith is not a good thing, DA.
"Isn't that weaker?"
No, belief in some wild, unsupported assertions because you wish they were true is much "weaker" than believing in assertions supported by credible evidence, whether or not those assertions are comfortable.
"Isn't THAT the real lacking, to not be able to believe in something without seeing it yourself."
I accept plenty of things I have not seen myself. I accept the evidence and conclusions presented by qualified scientists who subject their work to peer review. I don't find that approach lacking in any way.
"That's just an answer to all the people who come at me like that."
Woo, I really feel put in my place by that rebuke.
"Personally, I really don't care what anyone else believes. You have your beliefs, I have mine, and as long as your beliefs aren't detrimental to my life or the lives of others, go on with your bad self."
Similarly, I don't really care what you believe, except that you probably vote, drive and raise children. I think the case could be made that you are under-qualified for those activities.
"But do me that same favor, leave me to my beliefs without your snide little comments or condescending attitude."
No, sorry, I can't promise that.
He goes on and on how belief equals strength and atheists are weak, but he doesn't address the most important question: who is right?
He never claims to believe because he's convinced it's the truth; he believes as a test of his strength of character. That's not religious faith, that's just ego talking.
In normal life, in normal society, the issue of religion never comes to hard feelings. When it does, it's usually at the instigation of some slobbering evangelical. [correct me if I'm wrong here, please.]
Atheists do not proselytize. What is there to gain by that?
I'll give you ten to one, Dark Angel, that you are the one starting the bad feelings through these encounters.
Btw, go fuck yourself.
Never come to Sweden, 'kay? To most Swedes, it's pretty baffling that someone ACTUALLY still believe in those ancient myths and legends. Most of us don't even care enough to call ourselves atheists, any more than we call ourselves aunicornists, or aghostists.
Sure, and it shows MORE strength of character to hold onto your belief in things unseen, like the Invisible Pink Unicorn or the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
Most people (religious AND atheists) accept science as real, as there is EVIDENCE FOR IT. Religion and science is not an either/or thing, dearie, nor is religion and cars, nor religion and automatic weapons.
I don't believe in gods because the more I learned about religion, the less sense it all makes.
I haven't seen my bladder nor my lungs, I still think they exist.
So, you're the only one who's allowed snide little comments and a condescending attitude, right?
Patting yourself on the back for 'standing up to atheists,' that's one thing. More power to you, free country and all that.
But...
But...
But standing up to science? That's something to be proud of? Either you're in denial of things there IS evidence for, such as global warming or evolution, or you don't really understand science and think science says there's no god. either one is NOT something to see as superior.
Confused?
