The real cause of the breakdown of the nuclear family started in the 20's with the first sexual revolution, and the following Depression which destroyed many families. Then in the 40's when women for the first time entered the workplace and left the home, disrupting a social order that had existed for centuries, more damage was done. The final death to the American family was the invention of the pill and the "liberation" of women and the legalization of abortion for those the pill didn't catch, so women could, for the first time, with their jobs, and their freedom from becoming pregnant, become essentially men.

I think the story behind this post is quite clear: this guy had to compete against a woman for a job and lost. Now he is screaming for a return to the past. Sorry, but the days of barefoot women, pregnant, and in the kitchen are over, Mr. Leslie. Besides, try living in the 21st century on only one income and see how far it gets you!
Yeah, the only thing that differentiates men from women is that women can have babies and men can have jobs.
Mr. Bell, I support your right not to take the pill and not to have an abortion. Other than that, I think you ought to sit down and shut up.
so women could, for the first time, with their jobs, and their freedom from becoming pregnant, become essentially men
Let me at him. He's just begging for some humiliation on a few key differences.
The best part is that Mr. Leslie Bell is writing in defense of homosexuality. He agrees with Henry Makow that there is a breakdown of morals in American society but is sympathetic to gays for whatever reason, so clearly he needs to find a different demographic to blame. Are lesbians okay with him, I wonder? Probably only rich lesbian couples, who can stay at home all day doing godly feminine tasks like laundry without worrying about masculine things, like jobs or income.
Personally, I believe in society's moral disintegration, but I like gays and women so I blame immigration instead. Some might say that immigrants come to the United States for a better life for themselves and their families--but what does that teach impressionable American youths? To run away from their problems! No wonder the divorce rate is so high.
Women entering the workforce in the 40's was due to WWII you fuckwit. "Men" were off getting blown to bits, indirectly helping to keep Russia Communist amongst other things. Women were required to do the jobs vacated by men to keep society running, as well as work in the factories to keep the war machine turning!
Why don't you tell us what's really bothering you Leslie - get to the bit about your Daddy leaving you when you were little and you blaming your mother for it in order to deflect blame from you being a whiny selfish little brat! Tell us about your search to fill the hole that was your father figure - the anonymous gay sex in bathhouses with middle aged men, becoming more savage, yet emptier, until finally you embraced religion and conservatism, and transferred your self loathing once more against others!
Oh, no, asshole. Independent women are wonderful. You should try talking to one or two instead of being such a tight-assed fuckwad. They're still women, thank jeebus, and independent is nice. You, on the other hand, are a complete fuckwad.
I remember having to work with a girl about 15 years ago - she'd been hired in retail as a casual and was painfully shy (it was a department store and consequently management was retarded). She was stunningly cute though. A little too petite, but absolutely gorgeous. So tried telling her a stack of product information to give her confidence. (Didn't work). Tried having a chat to get her to relax. (She just stared at me and smiled a lot). I tried telling her jokes.
No response, except more smiling and shy glances.
Anyway in desperation trying to get her to open up a little (being too shy to serve people isn't a good thing) I asked her about her ambitions to see if I could get some enthusiasm flowing.
No response.
I asked her about her dreams.
No response.
I asked her what she wanted to do with her life.
"Get married, look after a home and have kids."
(I nearly knocked over an entire stand of saucepans - couldn't get me out of there fast enough. The ultimate conversation killer.)
She quit the next day.
(grumbling) stupid world wars, ruined everything. why can't it be like 'the little house on the prairie' again. damn women, trying to free themselves from centuries of oppression, they got a lot of nerve....
Centuries ago, most men AND women worked at home, stupid. Most people were farmers, which require the whole family to work all day, every day. The few who did other things, like doctors and shoe-makers and millers, had their practice or work area in a part of their home.
The industrial revolution meant that men for the first time entered the workplace and left the home, disrupting a social order that had existed for hundreds of thousands of years.
What's wrong with men? Why would freedom from having too many children be a bad thing for families? Why should only men have the freedom from becoming pregnant? And, for that matter, isn't becoming pregnant something you do together? The man may not carry the fetus, but he is going to have a child, just as much as the woman.
As far as I can see, the American Family still exists, as does the Swedish Family.
There have always been ways to reduce the risk of becoming pregnant. The condom is at least 400 years old, probably thousands of years old. Herbs and other natural substances have been used to not get pregnant (and to start abortions). It just became much simpler with the pill.
Confused?
