YES i think women are strong and capable enough to take hold of their own lives. YES i think most rapes that involve people like me - middle class chicks in the suburbs or college towns or in rural areas - are totally preventable. Im sorry but i STILL have no idea what part of my logic you people think is so crazy. Do you think it is just coincidence that i have never been raped? I admit that now (and for the last couple years since my last job) i am (according to some) a "bubble baby" and i dont get out much. But i went to college and lived in a college town and i used to go to clubs and stuff and i have yet to hear of a SINGLE rape case involving people like me where i didnt think to myself "man she should have seen THAT one coming WTF!!"

You may not have heard for a number of reasons:
Er, the vast majority of women have never been raped, I don't think it's because you are special, or 'good'. However, it does happen, and no-one is to blame but the rapist. And most people don't go around telling people they have been raped. It, unfortunately, still has a stigma attached, due to attitudes like yours.
Her LJ userinfo says she's from Michigan. I have no idea which "college town" she's referring to, but I've lived in enough Michigan college towns to know that, especially on campus, you do not hear about rape . The victims don't talk and if they do, the college will cover it up if they can.
I have never been raped, but I don't for a minute think I'm immune to such a crime. And I don't blame other women who have been raped for "not seeing it coming" because ALL the blame should go on the rapist, not the victim!

Right, so all those kids raped by child molesters "had it coming"? The nursing-home patients were "dressed provocatively"? I, though showing complete lack of interest in the guy and wearing jeans & a normal t-shirt, "should have seen that coming"? (For the record, I'm not even female.)
You know, I don't wish rape on anybody, but if I did, she'd be at the top.
I do think that young people should generally be more informed about rape(too may think that rape is usually comitted by serial rapists in dark alleys), and young girls should be encouraged to be more careful around men they don't know well, although NONE of this would make rape all-around "preventable" WTF. Even if you ran from any guy you saw (must have been tricky in college) you were still lucky not to have any sick relatives or some shit.
What's up with this blame-the-victim mentality?
You know, I understand one point she makes about avoiding dangerous situations, which is a good idea for anybody.
She is totally ignorant and pathetic, but for God's sake, the people deserving to be raped, or rather, deserving trauma on the same scale, would be - duh - rapists!
Well, I have never been kidnapped, bombed or threatened with death, but I'm not going to tell that Maddie, the Iraquis or Salman Rushdie "saw it coming"
