Certainly national pride was involved, as the U.S. was engaged with the Russians in a race to put the first man on the moon, but there is no doubt that the motivation of those planning and directing the project was to investigate the origin of the moon and to confirm one of the several theories concerning its evolutionary origin.

Creation scientists, based on the clear and unequivocal statements in the Word of God, and firmly supported by well-established natural laws and the failure of all theories on the evolutionary origin of the universe, accept the supernatural, special creation of the universe, which, of course, includes the origin of the solar system with its earth and moon.

Ahh, what about all those extrasolar planets, you know, the ones orbiting nearby stars? Were they created using an entirely different method of magical wand waving then, despite being essentially the same type of thing? Or are they really just illusions projected upon the crystal sphere of the heavens, at which center the fixed earth is held?

It is simply amazing that anyone can be this ignorant of basic empirical data and be a member of an institute of any type, even one as uttely useless as this one.How did he find out how to apply for the job in the first place with this sort of willful and purposeful ignorance towards all things?

Is it too much to expect worthy opponents, or at least ones that are actually worth refuting?

I think what we're dealing with here is a belief that "evolution" means "not instantly created by God"whether or not the entity in question is organic. For them, if the Moon didn't come into existence instantly by divine decree, then it must have "evolved" from dust accruing to dust. (Or thereabouts...)

If I'm on to something here, then perhaps it's not just the implications for humanity that unnerves fundamentalists about evolution and every other non-theistic understanding of reality; it's the implications for existence itself.

{sigh} Do they really think that, if it didn't start out special, it can never hope to become special, even on its own? That's tantamount to turning Sloth into a virtue...

After he created plants on land, the Bible says that, "Then God said, 'Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years; and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth'; and it was so.
God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; He made the stars also. God placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, and to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness; and God saw that it was good. "

So, clearly, the creationist believes that the Moon, was created to "govern the night", even though it is not visible every night and that it is sometimes visible during the day and that it is an inert ball of rock, completely incapable of governing anything, nor does is provide any light of its own.

You lose, big time.

Since others have pointed out the fact that he's erroneously conflating cosmology with evolution, I'll move on to addressing this:

He claims that creation "scientists" have loads of evidence in the well-established natural laws to prove the use of special processes operating nowhere in the universe today. These statements were only a couple of paragraphs apart, yet they are wildly in conflict with each other -- yet he claims they support each other. It's doublethink of astronomical proportions!

How can you do research into "Goddidit"?

The race was first to put a man in space. The Russians won that. The next race was to put a man on the moon. The US won that. So, Russia - 1, the US - 1. Let's see who's first on Mars...

I'm no astronomer nor physicist, but I can (probably) stake my life that "its evolutionary origin" never entered into any discussions, whatsoever. And not only because evolution is not about origin in the first place, but about adaptation, change.

The Word of God is anything but clear and unequivocal, dolt. Did God create man first and then animals, or animals first and then man? Or both? Was the frist creation, in Genesis 1, a failure, so he started all over again, in Genesis 2?

The universe has no evolutionary origin. Evolution is Biology, the Universe is Cosmology, Astronomy. "Well-established natural laws" agree on that.

There are many, many, many moons in the Solar system, dolt. Earth might even have two of them (the other's called Cruithne, if memory from QI serves).

Who created God, and how?
And, again, the solar system doesn't just have one moon. Jupiter has at least four.

And no, we will not accept the supernatural special creation, until you have peer-reviewed the "research" your institute has done about it. Oh, and with a REAL science journal, not some Bob Jones University Journal.
