Zeitgeist the Movie...HELP!!!
A friend of my DH's sent this to him, and is this friend is being greatly influenced by it. If someone here has some argument against it please give it, because the film is rather convincing. There are lot's of holes, like December 25th and the three kings, which aren't mentioned in the Bible at all, but as far as some other comments I don't know what to say. I did not watch the entire thing, only the first few minutes, since that all I could stomach.

According to Wikipedia, the movie is about whether or not Jesus was historical, what happened on 9/11, the Federal Reserve Bank. Sounds lame. Although the Jesus part could be interesting.

If you are afraid that after watching a 2 hour movie, your whole faith could be shattered, then you already have some doubts.

I've never seen Zeitgeist, but someone described it to me as a cross between "The God who Wasn't There" and "Loose Change." So I don't know whether or not I'd like it. If it's one of those conspiracy movies which play fast and loose with reality, I can't stand those.
Yeah, NEVER EVER EVER expose yourself to an opposing point of view, especially if it's a good one. Whenever someone so much as looks like they're about to make an intelligent point about anything other than how great Jesus is just stick your fingers in your ears, sing your favourite hymn at the top of your voice and run like the wind.
@LOLWUT: Register as something like "Living4HIM". Hell, even just some random name like "chinesecheckers" works. You'll have access to the prayer request and apologetics sections, which produce some of the funniest quotes... which is probably why they're member's only.

Oh, I've been banned so many times, I lost count. I've put up some rather epic trolls though, many a responce has been put up here. Just make sure you get a few posts before you start trolling, just posting random things like "Amen brother/sister" will do fine.
Just use Tor and a throwaway email adress to sign up (don't use mailinator or something, they check those things by hand I think)
Lots of inaccuracy and oversimplification in that movie. But a lot of easily verifiable facts as well, that I thought were interesting. It's funny to see this fundie simpleton basically lying down on the ground in fetal position with hands over ears, saying "turn off the bad movie!"
The first 40 minutes or so (the historical/astrological background of the Christian faith) is an excellent first step... but then, you have to dig deeper. As for the rest, typical conspiracy theory BS.
Since when has truth about the origins of the religions be blasphemous.

The main point of the first part of Zeitgeist (the part that talks about Jesus) is that various other deities were born of a virgin, died and were resurrected after 3 days, etc., and that hence Jesus was probably completely copied and never existed.
Does anyone know more about how truthful Zeitgeist is about these topics?
The thing with Zeitgeist is that it's not supposed to deconvert you or change your life instantly.
It's the type of film that's supposed to make you think about things that are usually readily accepted without use of logic and reason. Although it doesn't encourage it directly, it makes the viewer realize that they need to question everything and that its always good to do research.
It's just a movie.
You don't want to watch it, don't watch it.

My perception is instead of each civilisation doing relatively similar stories because they were copying each other, since most of those civilisations weren't in contact at the time the archaeology states the stories were developed, nor spoke the same language, and suprisingly developed the stories at the same time, it must overall mean that something happened at that point of time that all people recorded in a different perception.
Now wouldn't it be interesting to find out exactly what that was that caused the greatest civilisations on Earth at the time to decide to write down what they saw?
