Meanwhile, the Parliament, House of Lords (the highest court in the land), the High Court (Old Bailey) and municipal councils made Civil Partnerships legal here in the UK years ago. LGBT people can marry, and theirs have the same legal recognition, entitlements & responsibilities as do those of heterosexual couples.
And there's fuck all that you can do about it, Steve. The US is finally catching up with human rights legislation in the EU. Gays, lesbians, bisexuals & transgendered people can now enjoy the same rights denied them for so long. Equality. In a secular, Atheist Europe. And now in the USA: 'land of the Free'. As in Freedom for all. Deal with it.
Roe vs. Wade (1973): Making abortion legal in the US. It was legalised here in the UK in 1967.
Kitzmiller vs. Dover (2005): Making the teaching of 'Intelligent Design' (and thus, by definition, Creationism) as 'fact' illegal and unconstitutional in all accredited educational establishments. In 'faith' schools here in the UK - even in 'homeschooling' situations - said child's curriculum has to conform to the National Curriculum. Teaching 'Creationism' as fact can makes said school/private tutor/parent subject to heavy fines and even imprisonment. Here in the UK - as it is in the US - Evolution is fact. Creationism is lies. The law says so.
Prop. 8: Judge Vaughn R. Walker. Initially nominated by Ronnie Raygun (but successfully opposed by a group of Democrats led by Nancy Pelosi; oh, teh irony, it burns! X3 ), but later renominated by Dumbya's daddy. Just as the destroyer of the Religious Right's educational agenda - via Kitzmiller vs. Dover - Judge John E. Jones III, was personally appointed to the Federal bench by George Dumbya Bush himself (and who was it who voted for Dumbya - twice? Yes, that's right: the Religious Right themselves). Who was it who overturned Prop. 8?
