Cmon, Zeus? He's a myth. The people who believed in those gods KNEW they were myths. That's why they are referred to as mythology. Christianity is not referred to as mythology. Roman and Greek gods are. But, they didn't actually believe those gods existed. They knew it was a myth.

So the Greeks & Romans believed in their Gods even though they knew such Gods were a myth. That's a pretty good trick right there.
But tell me a few things.
why did they make sacrifices to these Gods they knew were myths?
Why did they pray to these Gods they knew were myths?
How's about you answer those questions before we continue our little discussion.
This is either a terrific Poe, or the single stupidest fundamentalist the world has ever seen.
And that is saying something!
Christianity is not referred to as mythology because "myth" now implies that it is incorrect and there are far too many Christians who believe their mythology is true for the "mythology" label to stick. And we are all too politically correct to seriously refer to religious beliefs of existing religions "mythology" without a specific intent to belittle those beliefs.
The Greeks and Romans may have referred to their beliefs as "myths" but many of them did believe in those myths, even if it was not necessarily a belief that the myths were literally true. To some degree, they did believe that their gods existed, either as literal super-people, super-ghosts, or just super-abstractions.
We call them myths today, but the Greeks and Romans more than likely believed their gods to be as real as you think yours is. They were wrong, and so are you, so while much of the world hasn't reached this point yet there are already a great number of us who take your God to be a myth as well.
He's no more real than Zeus or Thor, and the realization of this is growing rapidly (except, for reasons I still don't fully grasp, in large swathes of America).
No, moron, the Greeks and Romans didn't call their mythology "mythology". They called it religion. It was people like you, who sought to diminish their beliefs, who referred to it as mythology.
I mean, shit! To borrow a line from a great Buddhist philosopher, "I've seen better heads on a mug of root beer!"
....
what a fucking moron..
in a thousand years, or as soon as abiogenesis is figured out, or as soon as any other religion is proven true, you will be ridiculed by the whole world. can your small mind comprehend? being laughed at by +7 billion people? that would be fun.
Oh sure, everyone else's gods are fake, but yours is the only one that's real? Get over yourself. I'm a Pagan, and I know my gods are real in the same way you know yours is.
Besides, how does this assclown know what the Greeks and Romans really thought? Was he there? Or is this more fundie mind reading?
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
