My Dad said they used to teach girls practical things in school for when they get married, but they don't anymore. That's why he homeschooled us.

Like how to spell, grammar, math, history, science?
Since when are English, math, and science not practical? That computer you're typing on could hardly have been created without them, and I'd call it fairly practical. The same goes for pretty much every tool and appliance and structure in your life, from your mode of transportation and the building you live in all the way down to your hair dryer and Tupperware. Heck, nuclear power is practical, and a woman (Marie Curie) is as responsible as anyone else, if not more so, for the pioneering work that makes it possible.

They still called it "Home Economics" in my school (which is reasonable, since "Economics", from "Oikonomika", means "the necessary arts of running a household"; the other meaning is secondary). It was entirely populated with guys who took it in order to get chicks.
But yeah, Barefoot and Pregnant thirded.
Usually I like to mock, it makes my cold cold heart happy, but I honestly can't mock this poor girl.
I almost weep when I think of all the experiences she may never have if she doesn't pull her head out of her father's ass.
Barefoot and Pregnant Award fourthed.
Nothing wrong with Home Economics per se , everybody should learn some (I'm a guy and I really, really wish I could sew or cook worth a damn), but when sexism creeps into it it's cluebat time.
Sweetheart, women don't have to get married if we don't want to. It used to be that women didn't have any rights, but then a lot of ladies made a big fuss and now we can do whatever we choose with our lives. We don't belong to anyone, we're under no obligation to get married and we can go to school and learn whatever we want.
Your Dad homeschooled you because some men are afraid of women who are smarter or more successful than them, and the only way they know to deal with being scared is to try and keep women from ever leaving the house. If you had gone to school, you might have learned that you could be a doctor, a lawyer, a writer, a painter, a politician, a computer specialist, a police offier, anything! But instead your dad kept you home to teach you how to look after a husband. He didn't do you any favors. What he did was to keep you from learning about all the wonderful things your life could have been, and it makes this Amused person very sad.
Honestly, the English on this post is pretty good, for a homeschooled kid.
It's still horribly sad, but, after all, that's why it's here.
Confused?
