Make no mistake, getting rid of the Constitution has always been the penultimate goal of the Left. Everything they have done, from expanding the franchise to women and younger voters to changing the demographic makeup of the electorate and buying off the elderly, has been with this object in mind. Unlimited government is the goal, and even though the Constitution is mostly honored in its breach these days, it is still a reminder that the real America, the historical America, is a nation of laws and not men.

And what are laws for, if not for people? And who are they written by, if not people? And who can change them, save only the people? And what good is a nation of laws with no people in it ... come to think of it, what in the name of all creation does 'a nation of laws and not men' even mean ?
It's amazing isn't it? They hate the ACLU as a Left Wing Pinko organization because it constantly defends the Constitution AND they declare that the Left wants to get rid of the Constitution.
The compartmentalization is mind boggling.
And I really do wish people would stop worshipping the Constitution without understanding what it is, what it does, or even reading the thing. It's a set of laws and rules for government, not the Third Testament of the Bible. It wasn't handed to James Madison on the top of Mount Sinai by Jehovah.
And another thing, while I'm riled up. What in tarnation does this fool think is the point of all these evil manipulations by 'the Left' over the last 200 years? If 'the Left' were really the Communist revolutionaries Pox here seems to think they are, they wouldn't be pussyfooting about fiddling with demographics; they'd take power by main force, and ignore the Constitution altogether.
"Make no mistake, getting rid of the Constitution has always been the penultimate goal of the Left".
Funny, I thought that'd be the goal of the Right.
So, you're saying that the only tactic to get your way in elections is to disenfranchise women, the elderly, the young and minority groups. You have utterly missed the concept of democracy, VD.
So the Left is going to get rid of the Constitution by expanding the voter franchise to include the Other.
Funny, I thought it would be more Molotov cocktails and mass demonstrations and wearing berets while shouting, "To the barricades, comrades!" More exciting, in other words. This revolution sounds dull and legalistic. Am I supposed to beat down the oppostion with votes?
Yes? Okay.
Wait a minute. I thought that these freaks thought we are a nation of God and now they are claiming that we are a nation of mere man made laws? And, if getting rid of the constitution is the penumltimate goal than what is the ultimate goal? "Unlimited government" seems like it would be easier to obtain by enforcing the constitution in draconian ways. Sigh...
It hurts trying to make sense of the raving of freaks.
@RW2
Get rid of Constitution = penultimate goal
Unlimited government = ultimate goal
Well, that's what he's saying anyway. This is actually quite mild by Vox's standards. A search of his name on FSTDT will confirm him as one of the most loathsome people on the internet, which is really saying something.
Agreed that this is relatively mild for Vox. And to be fair to an unfair man, he is citing an (enormously stupid, in my opinion) article from a liberal that advocates abandoning the Constitution. (No, he didn't take it out of context; the guy really says we should give up on the Constitution altogether.) So there is some evidence there. Not nearly enough to validate his sweeping claims, of course, as the majority of liberals want to preserve the Constitution... but some.
Joey:
Nixon was a warmonger and a crook, but he also signed off on setting up a whole bunch of things today's Republican Party would cheerfully dismantle, dismember, or otherwise render inert and ineffective so that the interests they represent would not be inconvenienced in their pursuit of the concentration of wealth at any cost.
You're still bitter about women getting the vote?
Get over yourself. In a free society, that's just how things work - everyone benefits. I realize that doesn't make you special anymore simply for being a white, christian man, but it's way past time to suck it up and move on.
By the way, I'm not just a woman - I'm also Pagan. And I vote .
"Make no mistake, getting rid of the Constitution has always been the penultimate goal of the Left."
Except it's the right who have been attacking the first, second and fourth amendments for decades.
The Constitution provides for its own amendment. The Constitution requires passing by both houses as well as ratification by the States. There's no way that one side can amend, let alone dismantle, the Constitution without active participation by the other. As it happens, the Nineteenth Amendment, expanding the franchise to women, was passed when both houses were controlled by Republicans. Most of the states that already had female suffrage were Republican. By the standards of today's GOP, the Republican Party of 1920 is the Left.
"Make no mistake, getting rid of the Constitution has always been the penultimate goal of the Left."
No, that's the goal of you guys. Have you even bothered to read the darn thing?
Yes!! Those devious libruls are trying to destroy the Constitution by extending its protections to more people, like people with hoo hoos and ni**ers, and their silly notion that people who can be drafted to fight in wars have the right to help elect the people who decide when we go to war.
Joey: Nixon signed the Clean Air and Clean Water acts. Granted, the latter was helped along mightily when a FUCKING RIVER caught on fire.
He also was planning to promote a health care bill and, just to mention the obvious, was a degenerate criminal and the greatest threat in my lifetime to our constitutional government.
Whenever Vox says "Make no mistake" I know a bunch of bullshit is about to follow. This post did not disappoint.
As someone who Vox would consider a "lefty" I know that the only thing protecting me from zealots is the Constutution. The last thing I want to do it get rid of that.
How US women got the vote- years after some other countries:
The key vote came on June 4, 1919, when the Senate approved the amendment by 56 to 25 after four hours of debate, during which *** Democratic Senators opposed to the amendment filibustered *** to prevent a roll call until their absent Senators could be protected by pairs. The ***Ayes included 36 (82%) Republicans and 20 (54%) Democrats.*** The Nays comprised 8 (18%) Republicans and 17 (46%) Democrats.
The franchise was expanded to women by Constitutional amendment #19. The voting age was lowered to 18 by Constitutional amendment #26. Both were properly ratified by 3/4 of the states in accordance with the procedure outlined in Article 5. The "buying off of the elderly", by which I assume you mean Medicare, was enacted by Congress in accordance with Article 1, Section 8 and signed into law under the provisions of Article 1, Section 7. Try actually reading the Constitution some day.
Vox's Constitution only applies to white male landowners. No women, no blacks, no Asians, no poors. This is what the Republican party actually believes.
Confused?
