Running with Scissors, the thing I like about your post is that you speak your truth and aren't afraid to say it. I respect that. I am only replying about one of your statements. About reading the Bible. I have. So let's take the Muslim thing off the table. Let's just talk about liberal Democratic beliefs vs. the Bible. Let's see. The bible says Abortion is a sin. Democrats are ok with it. The bible says homosexuality is an abomination, but Democrats are ok with it. The bible says the Lord helps those who help themselves, but Democrats believe in giving people something for nothing. That is why I would never vote for a Democrat. And that is why I don't believe any true Christian could actually support the Democratic party. Now I know a lot of people feel differently and that is ok. I am just speaking my truth.

I hate fundies who have never actually read the bible. The bible states NOWHERE that 'the lard helps those who help themselves', as a matter of fact, it DOES state the opposite, in the actions and teachings of jesus. The bible also says to love everyone, accept everyone, be kind to everyone; these are things liberal Democrats also believe, yet supposed christian Republicans don't. THAT'S why I would never vote for a Republican, even when I was a christian. Your 'truth', FredsMom, is ignorant bullshit.
Actually, the bible says that if you punch a pregnant woman in the stomach and she loses the baby, you have to pay a fine to the father.
It doesn't say what happens if a pregnant woman pays you to punch her in the stomach.
"The bible says Abortion is a sin"
No it doesn't.
"The bible says homosexuality is an abomination"
Meh, possibly but there wasn't really a word that translates to homosexuality so it may have meant something a bit different to what you're thinking of, and it hardly dwells on the point either way so it's clearly not as important as you lot seem to think it is.
"The bible says the Lord helps those who help themselves"
No it doesn't. That was Ben Franklin.
Jesus said that the rich should give all they have to the poor.
The early church had all their goods in common.
Jesus said the love of money (Reoublicans call it the Profit Motive) is the root of all evil.
PROTIP: When quoting the Bible, be sure to actually put the verse you're citing in the text.
Also, who trusts the Bible?
The bible does say that Homosexuality is a sin...
Leviticus also says you should not eat pork.
That you should shun people with skin afflictions (that includes pimples)
Not wear clothes of different materials. (Aka, no suits! That silk lining = UNGODLY)
No contact with women on periods.
Oh and no eating Owls. M'kay?
So either you put up or shut up...
"The bible says Abortion is a sin."
Really? Where?
"The bible says homosexuality is an abomination, but Democrats are ok with it."
So is eating shellfish, boiling a kid (a baby goat for anyone that's confused by that) in it's mother's milk, wearing mixed fabrics, working on the Sabbath (which is Saturday by the way, not Sunday) and so on.
"The bible says the Lord helps those who help themselves, but Democrats believe in giving people something for nothing."
That whole line is a pitiful attempt at absolving Christians of any reason to help anyone. And since it was written by Franklin, and thus not found in your precious Babble, I'm pretty sure it was either because he knew his audience would eat it up or he was being sarcastic/facetious.
"That is why I would never vote for a Democrat."
Then don't. It's your right and nobody gives a damn anyway.
"And that is why I don't believe any true Christian could actually support the Democratic party. Now I know a lot of people feel differently and that is ok. I am just speaking my truth."
Wonderful. Now go away.
"The bible says the Lord helps those who help themselves"
So if I came into your house, and helped myself to the food in your fridge, the money in your wallets/purses/piggy banks, and the bodies of your wife/daughter (as long as the latter's 18+), that's all right, and you wouldn't object, eh? Because the Bible SAYS so.
We in the UK have had the National Health Service, and a comprehensive Welfare system since the late 1940s (invented & planned by a CONSERVATIVE), and we haven't ceased to exist as a result. Socialism. You should try it sometime, America, it won't kill you.
"The bible says Abortion is a sin"
Do you & your fundy 'Pro-Life' ilk want to look after all the unwanted babies in the world? If not, you have NO right to criticise abortion.
Let's just talk about conservative Republican beliefs vs. the Bible. Let's see. The bible says the meek shall inherit the Earth. Republicans just help the rich. The bible says to love thy neighbor, but Republicans are ok with hating thy neighbor if he is a homosexual. The bible says judge not lest you be judged, but Republicans believe it is there right to judge everything that goes on in the bedroom and the doctor's office. That is why I would never vote for a Republican. And that is why I don't believe any true Christian could actually support the Republican party. Now I know a lot of people feel differently and that is ok. I am just speaking my truth.
FIXED
I guess that Jesus dude with all his "give to the poor, help each other, share and be nice" preaching was just some liberal hippie that most christians ignore, huh?
Also, Dan Onymous, I much prefer Battlestar Galactica theology:
"The gods lift those who lift each other."
If we have to live in a society beholden to a theology, why can't it be that one?
Here's a real collection of stupid.
The bible says Abortion is a sin. - no it doesn't; it says nothing about abortion one way or the other.
The bible says homosexuality is an abomination - it says the same thing about eating shellfish. How many fundies complain about that?
The bible says the Lord helps those who help themselves - No it doesn't. Aesop had a version of it. So did others. Most Americans know it from Ben Franklin.
The Bible says give everything to the poor and love your neighbor as yourself. Start with those and then come back and bitch about the rest of us.
'The Lord helps those who help themselves'
doesn't mean what you think it means - in real english it would read 'the lord helps those who, themselves, help'.
At least that's what I've always thunk, otherwise it doesn't make any sense.
@ FredsMom
"So let's take the Muslim thing off the table. Let's just talk about liberal Democratic beliefs vs. the Bible. Let's see. The bible says Abortion is a sin."
Actually the bible doesn't mention the bible at all.
"The bible says homosexuality is an abomination, but Democrats are ok with it."
The bible also speaks out against people of colour. Would you support taking their rights away as well?
"The bible says the Lord helps those who help themselves, but Democrats believe in giving people something for nothing."
Firstly the bible DOES NOT contain that statement! Second I believe the Democratic party supports helping people who, at the moment, cannot help themselves. Sounds ok to me.
"That is why I would never vote for a Democrat. And that is why I don't believe any true Christian could actually support the Democratic party."
Why? Because they believe the lies you've just spewed?
You're a woman, who cares what you think. Your beloved bible certainly doesn't.
And can't you define yourself any other way than by the products of your crotch?
"Bible. Let's see. The bible says Abortion is a sin."
Where? I mean in Samuel god does it himself and in Judges god commands his followers to rip wombs from pregnant women.
"The bible says homosexuality is an abomination, but Democrats are ok with it"
Yes it does say that. It also says not to chase money. Republicans do that. It says have compassion for the poor. They are severely lacking there. Judge not les ye be judged by the same standard. You and your ilk whine when you are hit with the same.
Confused?
