Hah. The child likely isn't the one who cared. As if it doesn't happen with other couples in love, only the LGBTQ+! But actually some people also complain about the others too. Hand holding, love, what a crime, where is the world going to! Goddam all to hell!!! Okay. Were there also people laughing at you?
From personal experience, as well as witnessing others doing the same, it's possible for someone's attention to completely be absorbed by the other's presence and to intensely look, kiss or hug, even in public. Once with one of my early girlfriends, we were in the metro/subway and we missed our stop, then missed it again when in the other direction, it was hilarious. Unless there's actual explicit sex going on, few are scandalized by it.
But it exists and the couple may not be the problem to public peace. Once, in a bus, the driver stopped and called the police who accompanied a lady out. For at least fifteen minutes, she was having a fit and yelling madly as well as harassing various people. Still due to that, everybody also had to wait for the police to come.
She apparently was offended by a young couple who kissed, something nobody else cared about. The driver asked her to calm down and sit down, she wouldn't and also refused to leave the bus, was then menacing to the driver. She kept yelling that supposedly the couple was "making out in public", which wasn't what others perceived. In any case, she was the troubled person who needed to leave the bus.
