Oh, and my dad was watching the Discovery Channel last night and they had something about planets and galaxies... and how they discovered that planets in other galaxies are orbiting their suns in an oval shape instead of a perfect circle (like how Earth orbits our Sun), and it totally confused them. I was like "ha! God did something ELSE to confuse the evolutionists!! AWESOME!!!" :D

Evolution has nothing to do with planets. Get off your High Throne KJBprincess and read a fucking book once in your life.
It's called an ellipse. It's also how the Earth moves around the Sun (not a fucking circle... jeez dumb bitch). And just because it confused you and your dad, doesn't mean it confused the people studying it.
Earth orbits the sun in an ellipse, not a perfect circle. You fail.
Also, I think that was The Universe on The History Channel. I'm addicted to that show.
It's funny, because none of the objects in our solar system follow perfectly circular paths around the sun. They're ellipses, all of them.
KJBprincess needs to crack an astronomy text sometime.
KJBP, can you say "ellipse?" That is, just as all the planets in our solar system orbit the sun in ellipses so do the planets discovered in other solar systems. And, that would be planets in other solar systems, not other galaxies.
KJBP, you are the one who is confused... ever so confused.
Yep, Sky Goblin failed again. g0d will continue to fail with astronomy, seeing as how all the astronomers since Copernicus have delivered some very consistent refutations to g0d's supposedly "inviolable" version of the truth.
Deduction: g0d couldn't possibly have spent any time at all in the sky, because his "revealed knowledge" is totally wrong. About as wrong as the presence of sheep on Mars.
And these guys still believe in this heaven nonsense?
Riiiiight.
*ahem* this is the difference between science and religion when contrary evidence comes along:
Science: I can improve my theory so the new evidence makes sense, and my theories will continue to get better.
Religion: ZOMG FAIL! DENY! GODDIDIT!
Yeah, I can see how 'evolutionists' would be confused by that question. Probably answering something like 'What the heck does this have to do with biology anyway?'
However, if you ask them in a context which does not deal with evolution, they are liable to explain quite reasonable precisely why you fail .
A) The Earth does not orbit the sun in a perfect circle, and
B) I cannot imagine any worthwhile scientist being confused by this, an ellipse has two foci, and only one needs to be the center of gravity around which an object orbits, and finally
C) You probably mean other solar systems, not other galaxies. Our telescopes are nowhere near powerful enough to see all the way across our own galaxy let alone to ANOTHER galaxy entirely.
When you grow up, KJBprincess, marry rich. Otherwise, your chances of survival in the modern world are slim to none.
One, the Earth orbits like an elipsis, oval shape. Second, I don't know in which way it contradicts the theory of evolution, au contraire, it contradicts the Bible more and more.
Apparently "evolutionist" is anyone who doesn't believe that all true science comes from the 1611 KJV.
So, your "dad was watching." You didn't watch it yourself. Sounds like his wishful thinking made him misunderstand, he passed it on to you, you probably added your own layer of misunderstanding, and those reading your post will add some more.
I think we solved the riddle of how fundies can get science so completely backwards.
Discovery Channel
*hums* :D
The thing I'd like to know is if anyone corrected her in that thread, or they just said "amen, sister!", and "yeah, that shows them!".
Don't feel like registering right now, but I'll probably get an AV1611 Bible Believers user sometime later.
Yes, and the FSM changes the results of scientific experiments with His Noodly Appendage. Grow up.
And by the way, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that the Earth actually does orbit the Sun in a perfect circle.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Seriously, read a fucking history book.
Next thing you'll be telling me epicycles are real. If you didn't think they were some kind of bicycle.
Johannes Kepler (December 27, 1571 November 15, 1630)
King James Bible - 1611.
Your reading from the right period but the wrong author.
I think some of your fundie companions would resent your heliocentric view of the universe, but you still fail because all of the planets move in elipses around their parent stars. As far as evolution goes, it's got nothing to do with the way the planet moves.
Here's what probably happened:
SCIENTIST ON TV: "The orbits of the planets in our solar system are all nearly circular, with very low eccentricities. But when we look at the orbits of planets we've detected around other stars, we find that almost all of them have high eccentricities. This may be because the kinds of planets we're capable of detecting are usually 'hot Jovians' that are nothing at all like the planets of our own solar system, but we're still not sure why low-eccentricity orbits are so rare out there."
KJBPRINCESS: "Aha! They're confused! Score one for Jesus!"
So God deliberately made the orbits elliptical just to confuse scientists? But I though Satan was the author of confusion, not God.
That's the problem with these fundies. No consistency.
...
The earth does not orbit in a "perfect circle." It has a low eccentricity, but it does not orbit in a perfect circle.
I doubt you were watching The Discovery Channel.
Funny, last I checked, Earth's orbit was elliptical to a small degree, and Pluto's orbit is an ellipse to the point where it wanders in and out of Neptune's orbit. Now how about every other orbital body that's ever been struck by a large piece of space debris? If anything, a perfectly circular orbit would be the strongest evidence for an unnatural origin (And a particularly good science-fictional gravity anchor to screen out the influence of neighbouring planetary bodies, and a magic meteor shield). Earth's orbit, on the other hand, is anything but perfectly circular. Or did Jupiter suddenly not have any gravitational tide, the sun's own fluctuations have zero influence, and the entire solar system become a non-issue gravitationally?
Moron.
How does this have such a low rating? This person apparently manages to watch Discovery Channel programs on astronomy, and yet is under the impression that actual astronomers and physicists think the Earth orbits the Sun in a perfect circle. And that they are thus confused when this is not the case elsewhere. How can you watch a program on this topic and remain so invincibly ignorant?
Earth has an eccentricity of epsilon = 0.016
Mars has an eccentricity of epsilon = 0.0934
Mercury has an eccentricity of epsilon = 0.20
Venus has an eccentricity of epsilon = 0.0067
Jupiter has an eccentricity of epsilon = 0.048
Saturn has an eccentricity of epsilon = 0.054
Uranus has an eccentricity of epsilon = 0.047
Neptune has an eccentricity of epsilon = 0.008
Hmmm... seems that Venus is the planet most favoured by "god", isn't it? At least, its orbit is the most nearest to the "perfect circle", and NOT earth's orbit.
Or will you, "KJBprincess", just admit that you are talking nonsense?
Sounds to me like the one that was totally confused was on the other side of the TV screen from where you thought.
I will award one point for watching a decent show about the universe (and not Hovind, Ham, or Comfort), but you will need to work on reducing your tendency to use "goddidit" for everything you can't explain.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
