The Biblical standards for music are:
Separation: The music as well as the musicians should be distinctly separate from anything that is worldly. Simply, the music should not sound like the music the world loves.
Testimony: The musicians testimony should be one that demonstrates their love for God and their willingness to serve Him. Of course, this means that they must be living a pure and holy life. Opening for rock/pop/rap/mainstream country stars would, of course, disqualify them.
Message: The message of the music must be clear, must praise God and must edify the saint.

Seriously, the mockery here just writes itself -- heck, it's already written!

Bro. Randy has SPOKEN. Do not disagree or argue, or you'll be banned, have your posts deleted, and the thread will be closed.
"The Biblical standards for music are:"
No, these are Bro. Randy's standards for music. BR, please show the Bible verses that support your claim that these are "biblical standards."
"Separation: The music as well as the musicians should be distinctly separate from anything that is worldly."
What? It all has to be played on air guitar?
"Simply, the music should not sound like the music the world loves."
It's only acceptable music if it's so bad that everyone hates it?
"Testimony: The musicians testimony should be one that demonstrates their love for God and their willingness to serve Him."
And, Xian rock doesn't do that?
"Of course, this means that they must be living a pure and holy life."
So, you KNOW that all Xioan rockers are living an "unpure" and "unholy" life?
"Opening for rock/pop/rap/mainstream country stars would, of course, disqualify them."

So, music without lyrics is not allowed. All those J.S. Bach organ works, Mozart's concerti, etc. are disallowed?
Bro. Randy, not only are you an ignorant and stupid asshole, you're also musically illiterate. Worse yet, you're attempting to make vulnerable teenagers as ignorant, stupid and illiterate as yourself. Shame on you. Shut up and go sit in the corner.
I read the first sentence and I knew this had to be bro.randy.
Simply, the music should not sound like the music the world loves.
Okay then, so incredibly extreme death and black metal is good then, because it's not mainstream?
Testimony: The musicians testimony should be one that demonstrates their love for God and their willingness to serve Him.
Oh. Right.
So, basically what you're demanding musicians is to be like monks without habit. I wonder why you don´t demand the same for writers, film-makers, actors......or the rest of the human world.
But what we get instead could bore the stripes off a skunk.
Handel, Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, the Gregorian monks (to name a few) ... those guys knew Christian music. There are few men of their caliber alive today (except, of course, that there are still Gregorian monks).
In other words, music should be boring and preachy? Screw that. If that's the kind of music that floats your boat, you go ahead and waste your time with it. I'll stick to my "evil", secular music and to artists who actually have some taste.
Honestly, I feel sorry for anyone who listens to this goon. They're not only brainwashed, they must be bored out of their tiny little minds as well.
I seriously cannot get over the egos of some of these folks. Didn't the Bible preach humility somewhere in the back? Wanting to be "separate", to be apart from the world will result in a lot of awkward glances and questions. You bring attention to yourself with the way you dress, the way you speak, heck, even the music you deam offensive. Either the person practicing these beliefs has a persecution complex and really wants validation of such or merely wants to shock the world with his or her pious devotion. Either way, these sorts of actions won't go unoticed and make a person look like an attention seeking narcissist.
Bro. Fuckwit and his merry band of idjits probably won't be happy until we all take a collective breath and then shout out "Ok, ok, you're special, you're unique, we're doomed and you're not. Praise Allah!" I wonder what he lacked in his childhood: friends, parental love, vegetables....

whitewater55: HEY! Don't be dissin' Queen! They produced some of the finest, most musical rock music ever created.
Matilde: In case you haven't noticed, that is exactly what he demands from everyone, except that he expects them to eventually marry and produce hordes of little fundies, too.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Joseph Georbels:
"The Nazi standards for music are:
Separation: The music as well as the musicians should be distinctly separate from anything that is worldly. Simply, the music should not sound like the music the world loves.
Testimony: The musicians testimony should be one that demonstrates their love for Der Furher and their willingness to serve Him. Of course, this means that they must be living a pure and aryan life. Opening for rock/pop/rap/mainstream country stars would, of course, disqualify them.
Message: The message of the music must be clear, must praise Der Furher and must edify the Reich."
There. That's better.
So... you can't listen to music at all, ever? Because I've never heard Christian music that didn't share a genre with secular music. Never. It doesn't exist, unless some Christian musician is brilliant and invents new music... and where there's brilliant music, there's imitation, so it wouldn't be long before it would be music that the world loves.
Another thought... it's wrong for Christian bands to tour with non-Christian ones? Why? Wouldn't that be a good witnessing opportunity, and maybe open up some ungodly people to the gospel? From a Christian perspective, wouldn't touring with secular bands be a GREAT thing?
According to Teens-4-Christ, Bro Randy's a member of Faith Baptist Church of Shelby, NC.
So, if you want to know what music he approves of, take a listen to their choir:

Unfortunately , I couldn't make it to the end of the first track.
No wonder these guys are so stupid, having such a lack of stimulus can only make the brain rot. Not that I'm saying that most mainstream music at the moment is great, but to be limited to the terrible music Bro. Randy approves of can only drive you insane after a while.
Poor kids.
5 David and the whole house of Israel were celebrating with all their might before the LORD, with songs [d] and with harps, lyres, tambourines, sistrums and cymbals.
...
21 David said to Michal, "It was before the LORD, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed me ruler over the LORD's people IsraelI will celebrate before the LORD. 22 I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor."
Damn that immoral modern music...
NotMe: David danced before the Lord, so says the Babble.
Mrs Kellie's thoughts the matter, when it was pointed out to her:
I've always felt that 99% of dancing is all about calling attention to yourself and your body, or doing what "feels good". David danced before the Lord, but I think that dancing has gotten so perverted in our day, that we could not even imagine what a truly, holy dance would be like.
Simply, the music should not sound like the music the world loves.
Okay, I'm having trouble just wrapping my mind around this...
The whole point of music is that people like it. It evokes an emotional response. How the fuck is it even possible to create music by these standards???
The sad thing is, this guy just goes on with himself, not realizing that he's constantly contradicting himself. I wonder how many times a day he slaps his hands to his ears and says, "NO! I WON'T LISTEN!! I KNOW GOD IS WITH ME, AND I'M RIGHT, EVEN WHEN I'M CAUGHT TALKING OUT OF MY ASS!"
solomongrundy:
So, let's see... marginally competent songwriting in a plain-vanilla major key, sung in unison by a more-or-less untrained choir to a rather plain but jaunty piano track.
That's not worship music. That's third-rate soft rock. (Although there's enough rhythm in it that you could probably do some nice grinding to it, at least if you pitch-shifted it into a minorish key...)
@ Matilde -- I think they do, but I'm not sure. I can't understand enough of their posts for the stupidity to tell :P
@ Redhunter -- But I love bagpipes...
Mr. Vorhias: I believe the accepted term, at least among outdated youth ministers, is "radical".
For what it's worth, I don't know where, if anywhere, the Bible has much to say on the subject of music, except that it was quite enthusiastic about it whenever it came up (generally the louder and more boisterous the better). Plato's Republic actually had quite a bit on the subject, most of it extremely patronizing, even to the point of going all Sapir-Whorf on musical scales.
But of course who'd admit that their closed-minded attitude towards music came from the pagan Greeks?
when I was really young, I was sent regularly to chapel (that's like a baptist church but without the fun) - a Welsh-rooted one at that.
The hymns we sang were one note away from dirges (when we sang in Welsh they were dirges!) Since then I have heard music by great composers, performed by great artists. I've even heard songs and some hymns in Welsh that sound as though there is joy in them.
If there is a god, why would he choose mournful flagelation of hymns, to the glory of Beethoven 9?
Confused?
