"Should the government be permitted to remove children from their homes and subject the children to educational training and procedures of which the parents may or may not approve? "
Well, speaking as a product of Britain's state education system, in which thinking for yourself is encouraged, I'd have to say Yes. And for two reasons:
1- It's done me no harm whatsoever.
2- The scene(s) early on in the documentary film "Jesus Camp", with the 'hoemskuled' kids:
'I pledge allegiance to the Christian flag...'
And that was in America; the 'Stars & Stripes', and all that jazz. Now, what's the difference between that, and what's done in Madrassas in Afghanistan & Pakistan? You tell me.
Right-wing Fundamentalist Christianity poses an infinitely greater threat to world peace than Al-Qaeda.
China seems to be doing just fine. And that country - certainly educationally - is at best Irreligious.
Moral: The phrase 'Don't pray in our schools, and we won't think in your churches'. It exists for a reason. And if that scene in "Jesus Camp" is anything to go by, 'hoemskuling' should be legislated out of existence.
