Islam arose in the 7th century AD. There was NO catholic church before AD 1000, idiot. Makes as much sense as saying Christianity invented hinduism, a relgion invented thousands of years before. The only organized church before then was the Orthodox, from which the catholic church broke off. Also, if your'e referring to the Byzantine Empire (assuming you know what it is) where the orthodox church had influence, its territorial boundries were not even close to the parts of Arabia where the Muslim religion was born.

Mad dog, what happened in ~1000 AD that you are calling the start of the Catholic church? Was it the Great Schism in 1054? Because that was more of a (rather violent) parting of ways than the creation of a new church. Papal history in Rome goes back to Peter in ~30AD. Catholic doctrine developed side-by side with Orthodox Christianity since the start of Christianity itself. There was certainly what most people consider to be the "Catholic Church" when Islam was founded.

To borrow terminology, the religions had a common ancestor. It is not unreasonable to call the proto-Catholic/Orthodox church of the first millennium "Catholic", especially since the historical geographical and 'holy' areas of influence seem to be more concordant with modern Catholicism than Orthodoxy.

What I mean is that CATHOLICISM DIDN´T INITIATE IT, because that concept, as opposed to Protestantism(Christianity in their slang)or Orthodoxism, to begin with.
