((On why offending God merits eternal suffering))
It is His position, I hope this isn't too poor of an analogy...
You are walking down the street and you are in a pretty poor mood, you bump into a homeless man, in your frustration you shove him to the ground- because of his status nothing really happens to you.
Same scenario, but you bump into me ( a regular guy) I call the police and maybe you get a fine and probation.
Same scenario, but you bump into the president- if you are not shot by the secret service- you will go to prison.
it is not just the offense- it is the rank of the person you have sinned against.

That's actually a pretty reasonable analogy.
Too bad it's utterly meaningless, since God doesn't exist.
I think you're an asshole, you little cunt fuck.
How could you possibly offend an all knowing being? Go ahead and say it, your God is nothing more than a childish rodent just waiting to be ticked off to throw people into his loving hell until 'ever.
Here's the deal: the scenario that you gave was based upon a view of law that is based upon unjust, unequal treatment and hierarchical privilege that should have no bearing on ideal morality. Just because there are more people who are willing to punish you harsher for the same crime against a person of progressively higher social rank does not make it a worse action ethically. Assault is assault is assault, regardless of who you are assailing. It will remain wrong or justified for the same reasons, regardless of the stature of the victim. To assume that your God should be granted untouchability, since it logically follows from the warped justice system of a nearly feudal conception of society, is only correct if you assume that God supports such inequality. I would certainly hope that you would not...
If someone bumps into you, what fucking right do you have to call the cops? It's just a bump, unless by "bump" you mean a "vicious right hook to the chops".
Stupid fuck. I'd love to "bump" into you.
"You are walking down the street and you are in a pretty poor mood, you bump into a homeless man, in your frustration you shove him to the ground- because of his status nothing really happens to you."
Yeah. Pretty much.
"Same scenario, but you bump into me ( a regular guy) I call the police and maybe you get a fine and probation."
No, the police tell you "Sorry, but we deal with REAL crimes, go cry into your booze."
"Same scenario, but you bump into the president- if you are not shot by the secret service- you will go to prison."
No, I would be tackled by them, but that's not going to happen, since I would never be able to get close enough to the President to bump him in the first place.
"but you bump into me ( a regular guy) I call the police and maybe you get a fine and probation."
Someone bumps into you and you call the cops? WTF is wrong with you?
"it is not just the offense- it is the rank of the person you have sinned against."
No, it is how fucking arrogant and up themselves the person is.
What upset me about this was that he's saying that you get in more trouble for offending a powerful person than offending a powerless person. Powerful people fuck you over for offending them because they CAN.
While this is no doubt true, I think it makes for a very ugly belief about God. He's so-o-o-o powerful that He can send you to Hell to get your eternal torment just for thinking about boobs when He said not to or breaking any one of His hundreds of other paradoxical rules. He can, so He does.
Fuck the president, that retard needs to watch where the fuck he's walking. Furthermore, fuck your analogy. Unjust is unjust and fucked up is fucked up, whether you're a bum or the supposed Ruler of the Free World.
Now, if the president was immortal, all-knowing, and all-powerful, would he still care if you bumped into you?
Does God need secret service or the police?
Perhaps a better analogy would be bumping into Chuck Norris; he'd kill you himself.
Yes, but if God exists, he's all powerful and nothing could hurt him, right? So what does he care if someone does something rude to him, especially a minor crime like bumping in to him or insulting him?
I guess god supports the caste system... figures.
If that is the case, consider me one of the "Untouchables".
I walked down the street today. OMFG, I wonder how many invisible people and ghosts I bumped into and maybe knocked 'em on their asses. Shit, I hope none of them were important -- and pissed. What with more than 6,000 gods and exgods walking around it's hard to miss them. I bet when I stubbed my toe last week it was really one of them invisers tripping me up for revenge. What to do, what to do . . . if one of them was jesus I'm fucked.
So it's okay to beat up the homeless because they can't fight back.
Matthew 25:40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
Fuck you very much.
There are problems with this analogy. One is that they are all human; shoving them down is a sign of aggression or of assault and a risk to their livelyhood. You cannot assault God or risk his livelyhood; in fact, nothing you can do could ever hope to harm him in the slightest. Humans need laws and police to cut down on crimes, but what does God need justice for?
An ideal measure of how much one should be punished would be more along the lines of how much harm you have caused X how much worth the people or places or things you have harmed have. When you find something that does harm to God let me know. (And, no, zero times infinity is still zero.)

You made me pee myself.
You worship God BECAUSE he is petty, cruel, and immoral, but so powerful that sucking up to him might keep you safer? Fack.
How could an infinite, omnipotent being be offended by human actions in the first place? It's like a person killing a cat if the cat doesn't show sufficient adoration.
Humans know that cats are independent and don't punish them for being exactly what they are. Any god that doesn't know that humans are independent doesn't deserve the time of day, much less worship.
"you bump into me ( a regular guy) i call the police yada yada...."
No, you're not a regular guy. A regular guy just says "watch where you're going, dude" and continues on his way.
Confused?
