Where does it say that God commanded them to stone her? The religious leaders commanded it not God. I have not read anywhere in the bible that if a person sins they must be stoned. And "cutting off one's hand if they steal" just shows that in the last case scenerio should eliminate what ever caused that person to steal which would be the hand. It was not meant as a punishment but as a symbol showing how important it is not to sin.

Damn hands. Always making us do things we'd rather not do.
It´s actually in the Deuteronomy and the range of sins punishable with stoning is varied. However, you know what Jesus said when all those guys wanted to stone the adultress but, you know, it´s another story. However, at least you´re not justifying that barbarity.
Lillac, you've taken the name of a beautiful flower, for that, you deserve death.
You stupid fundie fuckwit
Do you even realize how much my people love the spring blooming of these flowers?Obviously not!Die asshole!
My Bible says something along the lines of:
"You will stone to death these mofos, for I the Lord your God demand it."
Maybe this guy is only reading the sanitized children's Bible, the one that skips from Noah directly to Daniel with nothing in between.
The bible does specifically demand stoning for a number of what it deems crimes.
Stoning is, from a social point of view, incredibly dangerous because it encourages brutal violence and cowardice among large numbers of people - any coward in the mob can indulge their vicious nature, hurl a rock and cause pain and injury, and the odds are nobody will even notice who did it, let alone reprimand them - such behaviour, under what one might call the cloak of "crowd anonymity" is only otherwise seen amongst street criminals in modern society. Once a few take part, the rest follow out of what is generally known as groupthink, spurred on by the leaders.
Stoning is nothing short of biblically condoned mob-rule and focussed rioting, instigated by supposed community leaders - a horrifying concept to anyone who believes in civilised (or merely even structured) society.

exodus 19:13 There shall not an hand touch it, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, it shall not live:
Leviticus 24:16 And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the Lord, shall be put to death.
Deuteronomy 22:24 Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.
I could go on, and on .....
Besides the other points mentioned here, jesus, who is some sort of partial jigsaw puzzle with god and the holy spirit, commanded his disciples to pluck out their eyes and cut off their hands if they offended god.
Read your own fucking book.
I like that idea: The religious leaders commanded it not God.
From now on, please do only what god commands to, and don't obey religious leaders. The world would be a better place if all the fundies did this.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
