Oh, good god. I can see it now, some jackass is going to try to trademark "God" or "Allah" to keep the heathens from using it.

Yes, people are so confused that they convert on the spot when someone says Allah. Never mind all the talk about Jesus. Nope! People there are just so gullible that they do that. I think this is more a case of trying to discriminate against a minority religion. Hey look! discrimination against christians! RR eat your heart out. Oh wait those are catholics, never mind.
Wait, why would a church in Malaysia, in a country where the official language is Malay and where God in Malay translates as Tuhan, use Allah, the Arabic word, as their translation of God? Who knows, maybe it is a sneaky way to admit that both religions worship the same God. In my opinion its a way to "cash in" on the major religion, by portraying yourself as the same. Maybe thats where the confusion might stem from.

I don't think that's true. I think Christians started using that word under influence of their Arab / Muslim overlords. In many languages (inclusing Indonesian which is very close to standard Malay) 'Allah' is the defacto word for 'God' (although Tuhan is also used).
Regardsless, Muslims always make the claim that Allah is the same as the Christian God and that their words means the exact same. It's also their way of reassuring Christians that switching to Islam isn't really a switch. More of an 'upgrade'.

I think the ancient Arabic word for "God" qualifies as a household word.
You pray to the same god as christians and jews, you even have Jesus as one of your prophets, as well as the important prophets of Judaism.
I'd actually buy a Bible or any other holy book writing it as God(TM), Allah(TM) or YHWH(TM), just for shits and giggles. Hey, if I'm not the only one, that could help raise money -- maybe even cover the costs of trademarking your stupidity.

And, btw, Arabic was widely spoken in lower Palaestina by peoples like the Nabataeans long before Islam came along with al-Lah, as an earlier poster correctly analysed the term.
The term El/Elohim in Hebrew (a cousin language of Arabic) is closely related.
So if if the term is patented, who will pick up the shekels? And will they share with the Baptists?
