"I don't agree with apes having the same rights as humans. Does that make me apephobic? "
Nah, that's common sense. Apes aren't human. It's simple biology.
"Just because a person disagrees with something doesn't automatically mean they fear/hate it."
Agreed. I disagree with plenty of religious people, but that doesn't mean I hate them.
"A lot of people use the therm "-phobe" incorrectly (specifically homophobe)."
Eh. Semantics. Homophobe, within the current lexicon, means someone who hates gay people, or spouts hateful rhetoric.
"-phobe:
denoting a person having a fear or dislike of what is specified
Homophobe:
a person who hates or fears homosexual people
We do not hate/fear homosexuals. Before you spout out some accusation, learn the definition."
Again, the dictionary definition of a word isn't necessarily the way it is used by the public. Words generally mean what we all agree that they mean. We all agree that "irony" describes a funny coincidence, when that's not the dictionary definition.
And if you don't hate gay people, then why are you telling them "No, you can't love this person?"
"And while we're at it:
big·ot
: a person who strongly and unfairly dislikes other people, ideas, etc.
When we dislike someones sexuality (not the person itself) it's not unfairly. We have plenty of valid reasons."
Like what? Most people use a 2500 year old myth to justify it. And even if we accept that myth as fact there are still some more-than-half decent arguments against it. One I heard (sorry, don't remember where) was that the word used in Leviticus (abomination) was translated from a word that meant unnatural or unhelpful more than it meant evil or immoral. Why would same-sex activities be considered unhelpful? Well, within the context, the Israelites needed more numbers. They needed more soldiers, more people to ensure their tribe continues. And two men aren't going to be able to reproduce, so the law was to kill them to serve as a deterrent. Of course, that law was for the Israelites, not us (another good argument). We, as a species are too numerous. There are just too damn many of us. So homosexuality isn't going to damage our "tribe."
Another one: Why should someone who disagrees with you be forced to live by your morality?
Sorry, you were saying something?
