With my children, I am not going to push any of them to go to college of any kind at all, but if our sons want to, I'll be all for it, but I'm not going to force it. But I'd try to discourage our daughters from going, they would be much better off apprenticing in the home for how to serve their husbands than they would be going to college to "get a career".

Dear Katy-Anne's daughters,
RUN.
Sincerely,
A concerned fellow female
I'd rather she NOT serve me. I'd want us to work as a TEAM. Also, going to college and getting a career would serve the household VERY well indeed.
PS: Is this T4C Katy-Anne?
How exactly would a girl "apprentice" in a home? Be a nanny or housekeeper? It makes no sense.
But hey, I'm all for keeping her spawn out of university. It'll free up financial aid for those who actually want an education.
I kinda find it sexist that this only gets a 4.
That being said, I bet at least one daughter becomes a lesbian and/or someday does grassroots campaign work for Chelsea Clinton.
I bet at least one daughter becomes a lesbian
I think it would be awesome if that happened. I swear, it'd be sincere proof of God's existence. :P
The Missus: Easy. She starts with an internship *under* Dad.
Once she's well trained, the little 'virgin' (it was just 'practicing') will be married off to a fellow fundie boy, leaving the "little brother/sister" that was born a few months after they pulled her out of school for 'an illness' with her parents of course.
A dumb philosophy.
One of my coworkers was a good wife, happy to serve her husband for many years. Then he dropped dead on her in her early forties. She said one day on her way out to the parking lot after a hard day's work, "I'm never again going to get myself in a position where I'm completely dependent on a man."
Another woman I know, her husband's been out of work for almost two years, except for occasional low-paying temp work. If she didn't have a skill and a steady $70,000 a year job, her kids would be serving fries instead of attending grad school.
"get a career"??
I think that's the most infuriating thin about this quote, to be honest. Quotation marks.
Then again, t could be worse. A ton of girls at my high school proudly talked about how college was for finding a rich husband. So maybe Katy-Anne here is just trying to save some money.
*facepalm* I'm conking out here, so I'll deal with this as bluntly as I know how.
KATY-ANNE, TAKE YOUR "WOMEN ARE INFERIOR TO MEN" *airquote*LOGIC*airquote* AND SHOVE IT UP YOUR ASS.
John,
That's where I'd be too. Guess what? My husband was 38 and I was just 5 days shy of turning 30 when he died. I was in the middle of going to school and his family didn't know. They were pissed at me for trying to get an education because I was supposed to have worked all that time to take care of my husband's needs while he went to school.
Meanwhile, I'm widowed, with a kid, working temp jobs to survive now. At least my 'babydaddy' wasn't my late husband. It's my current boyfriend and he figured out how to work AND go to school at the same time. How about that?
~ What the...?
College isn't all about "getting a career" you know. You can further discover things about yourself like...
Oh, why do I even try? They're against self-discovery and questioning as well.
Wow!! Guess what, In 1941 when the US entered one of the biggest wars they had every been in a.k.a WW2. Guess how they won? Some girls went to college and left there husbands and saved lives. If your daughter goes to college she can cure some disease or make a new fuel for cars. Or they could be sitting at home and cooking and cleaning. I know what I would have chosen. P.S. I am a 11 year old girl I want to go to Havard and be a lawyer. You know what my parent support my decision all the way.
Why is it when I see "how to serve their husbands" I think of a cannibal cookbook?PS Hopefully her daughters will one day tell her that they are all turning Episcopal or Lutheran, and getting doctorates in theology and becoming ministers. Or maybe that they are becoming bi-sexual porn stars, but they will make the movies at home!
Go ahead and discourage them from getting themselves an edumacation. I don't care. Colleges everywhere will thank you for withholding your particular brand of bullshit from our institutions of higher learning. Hey, we need someone to scream, fight, flash titties, and debate paternity of children on daytime television.
Slavery is alive and well...
If you want someone to clean up after you, hire a maid.
If you want an obediant doormat, get a dog.
If you have the intelligence of a nine-year-old, go back and live with your mama.
Well, I guess someone has to turn out daughters that are destined to be doormats in Fundie World, otherwise the men would never get laid. Let's face it, would a woman with a brain touch Brother Randy with a 60 foot barge pole? Would a woman with a brain even want to be n the same continent as Brother Randy? (For those who haven't heard of him, he's Teens4Christ's resident rape apologist - go track down his truly sickening words here on FSTDT and see a prime example of fundie "manhood" in action).
As for Katy-Anne's unfortunate daughters, one can only hope that someday, someone comes along and treats them as decent human beings instead of chattels. That won't happen in Fundie World, because in that particular parallel universe, having a vagina means you're damned from the moment you pop out into the world. It really says a lot about the brand of religion extant there that if you're female, your sole value consists in having an intact hymen until you're porelled down the altar in preparation to become Mrs Dishwasher to some creepy sleazeball with bad orthodontics and a broomsitck up his rectum over god. Apparently none of them have read Tess Of The d'Urbervilles - a nice scathing critique of the mindset that was penned a hundred and sixteen years ago .
Great googaly-moogaly.
I've got a four year old niece, and I'd be simultaneously broken-hearted and outraged if my sister even suggested she was going to take that kind of philosophy. (Not that she ever would, mind you.)
Of course, it helps I'm convinced that she's going to grow up to be just like her Uncle MarylandBear.
Ugh, the thread is horrible. Except when Katy-Anne gets called on making up things that are supposedly in the bible, and doing her own interpretation of what is meant by some verses. I thought you weren't supposed to do that, 'literal word of god' and all that?
"Ugh, the thread is horrible. Except when Katy-Anne gets called on making up things that are supposedly in the bible ..."
She learned it from T4C, I'll wager.
It's nice that someone actually called her out, though.
That's great, and if your daughters, don't marry, devorce, husband dosn't make enought, what then?

Just be forewarned: When you tell people what you do for a living, they're going to react as though you said "Nazi medical researcher."
(5 points to anyone who gets the reference.)
Actually, this attitude isn't just found in Fundie-land. My own mother (not religious at all) disapproved of my college aspirations and was constantly trying to 'domesticate' me.
Fast-forward 30 years: I have multiple degrees, and my fella is the one who does all the cooking!
(I agree it's a disgusting attitude, though. Hopefully Katy-Anne's daughters will see through her bull and do what makes them happy. We can but hope...)
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
