The medical industry will never admit this, but being gay is just a symptom of the declining health of our species. Humans are indeed dying genetically. Mutations are occuring at warp speed because of our diets and because of the diets of our parents. This is why cancer, diabetes, MS, and an assortment of other degenerative diseases are rampant nowdays....because they are being passed down by our parents via epigenetics (non-DNA-related inheritance). But guess what.....being gay is just another one of these "diseases." For anyone who thinks being gay is not a choice...you may be right....check it out. The following is a decades-old experiment that you will never see repeated nowdays....not only does it contradict neo-darwinism, but it exposes that there is a reason for today's high rates of cancer, diabetes, Depression, homosexuality and other so-called "diseases."

I mean, Cancer and diabetes have existed since the beginning of time. The problem is that there were apparently less frequent but not because of what this nut has said but for two reasons.
One, because of what you say, because we live longer and the sort. Second, that this illnesses were not diagnosed it doesn´t mean that the person was not suffering from them. It means that the science of the time was unable to label and diagnose it with the means they were provided. And even when this diagnoses were made, it´s not as well known as nowadays. Chances are that people, specially living in a small town, poor and with poorly trained doctors, were not properly diagnosed.

I'm always a bit bemused by arguments that gayness is a disease or a handicap. I mean, our civilization tries to accomodate people with handicaps; parkings spaces, accessible bathrooms, whole fields of technology, like prosthetics, intended to make the handicap into an inconvenience rather than a life-ender. Yet the people who make these arguments generally go on to say that homosexuality is gross and homosexuals should be discriminated against. Evidently some "illnesses" are more equal than others.
Also, depression? I've had it. Pretty crippling, in its extreme form. It seems to suck all the life out of the universe. Cancer? My grandfather died of it, and even the treatments were devastating. Homosexuality? Uh . . . means that if you fall in love, it'll be with someone who has all the same parts as you. Impairs no life functions other than having children with your spouse, and there are plenty of work-arounds for that. Really horrible "illness," on a par with cancer. Right. Irene

There's no such thing as "warp speed." "Non-DNA-related inheritance" doesn't exist either, unless you mean after birth -- in which case the word is "education." Quit making stuff up. Epigenetic mutations happen at the cellular level, and have never been demonstrated to affect the conscious behavior of anything with more than one cell. There's no such thing as Neo-Darwinism. Neo- means "new," and it's not. When you attach "Neo-" and "-ism" to words, the only people you're fooling are yourselves. We used to drown potential witches, believing that the guilty would float supernaturally. We don't repeat archaic experiments because they turn out to be bullshit, not because political pressures are hiding Ze Truths.

Excuse me, but queers have conclusively been around for a _LOOOOOONNNNGG_ time.Hunter-Gatherer societies ranging from Cro-magnon times over circa 30,000 years ago to modern times have always had queers as an integral part and parcel of their communities.For chrissakes we have depictions of men engaging in courtship and sex with each other on cave walls in Europe!You don't see any of that, just like the huge range of queer expression in Mesoamerican and Inkan cultures in everything from pots to murals have largely been systematically destroyed by prurient assholes.Priceless information on extinct or radically changed cultures wiped clean to maintain the illusion that queers have always been "queer". Sorry SuperAbort, but we queers have _always_ existed.Power to the People!

Oooookay. Being a molecular biologist I suppose I will give supersport some credit. Our lifestyles may have consequences for future generations by epigenetic inheritance. (Smoking is one such factor). This could be argued to have a detrimental effect on our genomes.

A predisposition to cancer and many other diseases, however may well be passed down in a "normal" genetic fashion. This phenomenon has been around forever, though.

Now, diabetes (type II) is mostly a matter of lifestyle, and has indeed gone rampant in later years due to huge sugar intake and lack of exercise. There may be some epigenetics involved here, I'm no expert on the field in particular.

When people speak of the "declining health of our species", they mostly refer to the fact that any person, regardless of history of inheritable diseases procreate. Consequently, now that there is so little evolutionary pressure on our species, we appear to assimilate genetic defects in our genomes.

This, however usually leads back to Hitler-ish reasonings which makes the issue extremely sensitive. Furthermore, we don't know what mutations are harmful in the end. For example, sickle-cell anemia gives resistance to malaria, so the would-be disease is in fact an advantage in parts of Africa.

My point, however is that this has NOTHING... NOTHING WHATSOEVER... EVER EVER EVER to do with homosexuality. It has been around since the ancient greeks and has been observed in the animal kingdom, only until now biologists have considered it irrelevant.

It has been speculated that pack members that don't procreate may help taking care of others' offspring and so on.

Bottom line: Stop worrying about the gays.
