“[Public schools] are teaching children that there is separation of church and state, and I am here to tell you that is a myth. That’s not true,” Bachmann said at the group’s 2006 fundraiser in Minneapolis. “And they explain to children in the public school system what a myth that is. And that’s what I love about this ministry — We want kids to come to the truth and that’s why this ministry is so absolutely vital. We need them in every public school classroom across the state to tell young people, ‘You Can Run But You Cannot Hide.’”

FFS, I'm not even American and I know that's bullshit. What was it, the Treaty of Tripoli?
Also, look up the definition of 'myth'.
Not only the Treaty of Tripoli, but also the writings of Thomas Jefferson, co-author of the Constitution, in which he explained the net effect of the first amendment's religion clause - to erect a wall of separation between church and state.
I find it hard to believe that some district in Minnesota keeps sending this nutball back to Congress every two years.
The sad part is, given the amount of religious indoctrination that still takes place in some areas, this quote almost seems rational out of context. You can run from Jesus freaks, but you can't hide.
"“[Public schools] are teaching children that there is separation of church and state, and I am here to tell you that is a myth."
I hear those damned liberal law schools do the same thing!
"We want kids to come to the truth and that’s why this ministry is so absolutely vital."
Oh, I get it. They can't determine truth from utter bullshit until they have examples of both and you're being kind enough to offer up steaming piles of bullshit for their edification.
Kudos to you then.
"We need them in every public school classroom across the state to tell young people, You Can Run But You Cannot Hide.’”"
Cue creepy horror movie music...
"You can run but you can't hide." That's not even vague in its threat. You make religion sound like Freddy Kreuger...which, come to think of it, would be accurate if insane fundies like you had control of the country.
Is complete and total ignorance of the basic rights of this country grounds for impeachment? Please?
@ 1037105: I'm finding that very hard to believe. There are definitely people who rival her in vileness, but I'm hard-pressed to name one who rivals her in insanity.
You Can Run But You Cannot Hide.'"
Except, of course, along the Afghani/Pakistani border
BS. What's wrong is that you guys cannot get it done in Sunday School and the other 2-3 days a week you go to church. You get your bible in public schools and there will be a ground swell of voices demanding pulpit time for Evolution and information of faiths other than Christianity. They'll get it, too. I've yet to see any of you agreeing to forfeit the tax status situation the churches enjoy. The IRS will be delighted to inform you how much you owe should you get your wish. Be careful what you ask for.
@One Trick Pony: That's OK. Here in N.C. we have a preacher advertising his book burning on Halloween. It includes non-KJV Bibles. I'm thankful that he cannot put his hands on a Gutenberg Bible. That moron would burn it because he wouldn't understand the significance of it. People like this make us Southerners look even worse. Coven Oldenwilde celebrates Samhain in Asheville and he's probably trying to draw attention away from them. They get all kinds of crap from the likes of Pastor Moron.
We need them in every public school classroom across the state to tell young people, You Can Run But You Cannot Hide.’”
----
In other words, "We're going to forcibly indoctrinate you into Christianity whether you like it or not!"
It's funny that fundies can't seem to grasp the meaning of the Establishment Clause when it's the very first sentence of the First Amendment.
A young lady with a lisp?
A young man with a lisp is a mythter.
According to Rincewind, hiding is unnecessary when you're running.
“[Public schools] are teaching children that there is separation of church and state... "
They would be correct in teaching that.
"...and I am here to tell you that is a myth. That’s not true,”
Nonsense. Our founding fathers in the United States knew that, although it may sound like a good idea, religion and politics just don't mix.
I mean, suppose the United States was to become a theocracy (Constitution Party winning the Presidential election and winning legislative seats, hostile takeover, etc.). Which religion/denomination do we base the theocracy on? I believe it would be practically impossible to have a stable theocracy in the United States because so many groups would be fighting for rule over the people that live in the United States.
You know, in a way, fucktards like this are doing Constitutional Law a real service.
The general public knows more about real evolution precisely because so many Creationists have presented a strawman version of it. The backlash of debunking educates the general public in a way that boring biology classes never could.
The same thing is going to happen with Constitutional Law. More people will learn what the Separation of Church and State is really about, because there are nutcases like this guy claiming it doesn't exist.
She makes me ashamed to be a Minnesotan.
Then again, our other senator is Al Franken. That makes it all better.
This is the same woman who believes there is a plot by the NWO to put in the Amero, thinks Congress should have "Loyality testing" and that the Liberals are going to kill people in Death camps... and the swine flu Vaccine.
She needs to be committed.
I am no expert on US government, but haven't you had separation for two hundred years, at least? About as long as there have been a United States of America...
We only separated our church from our state a decade ago, or something like that. And yet it seems like we are less religious than you are. Wonder why?
Every morning my first three years of school we sang a hymn before learning stuff. We often read from the Bible, and I know several parts of it by heart. It is beautiful texting, lots if it. But that does not mean I have to build my life upon it, follow it absolutely. I find the Illiad and the Aeneid beautiful too, but I don't adhere to them daily either. Shakespeare wrote some marvellous sonnets and plays, I don't worship him either.
(Oh, maybe just a little... "Love is not love, which alters when it alteration finds, or bends with the remover to remove." Ah, beautiful lines!)
There is no seperation of church and state?
Are you ready for the federal government and Obama to tell you when, what, where, why and how to believe?
Oh yeah, there is a seperation of church and state when THAT subject is brought up..but as far as you getting YOUR SPECIFIC beliefs enforced on the entire country then it is okay..okay for you that is...ou selfish egotistical bastard.
"We need them in every public school classroom across the state to tell young people, You Can Run But You Cannot Hide.’”
How blatantly evil, bravo.
We need them in every public school classroom across the state to tell young people, You Can Run But You Cannot Hide.’”
I just got a great idea for a horror movie script.
what? the ministry of truth?
also fucking read a dictionary for once in your life, being a myth has nothing to do with truth.
[Public schools] are teaching children that there is separation of church and state,
Oh no! God forbid we actually teach our kids about the first amendment!
and I am here to tell you that is a myth. That’s not true
Sorry honey, the first amendment is true. Read it sometime.
Crazy. Just crazy.
djeinbrum: It's a valid spelling. According to www.babynames.com , alternate spellings of "Michelle" include "Mechelle", "Michele", and "Mechele".
Where's this protection from violations of constitutional rights? This happened a few times to my children in Southwestern Ontario. Religion is not to be part of a public school curriculum but there are regular incidents of teachers doing this.
I myself in the seventies failed auto-shop for refusal to read three verses of the Bible. He did this every morning class and faced no reprimand or disiplinary action.
I recieved a 55 for marks and a 49 was considered a pass without teacher comment, the weasal made sure his class was a total waste of my time (recieved an 80 average on the tests reduced for attendance and attitude) And stated 'no pass' on his comment area. Totally state supported religious prejudism. When I was sent to the office for this refusal of forced compliance with religion the vice principal said there was nothing he could do about that. No punishment, detention or expelling as I was within my rights.
If I knew then, or when my kids encountered this bullshit I'da lawyered up and should have (legally, charter wise)won
To be fair, I not even sure if it's the religion or the fact that in Ontario: Teachers (goverment workers in general or office staff therein) are never responsible or prosecutable for their own actions (violation of our charter but there you are.)
Although Bachmann does not represent my district, I would like to join the rest of the Minnesotans who have apologized for her being elected.
You'd think we'd have learned our lesson with Ventura.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
