It's worth checking out the site I found this on. It's ostensibly an anti-racist website, but in practice its forums are like AssataShakur.com only with Asians instead of blacks; full of anti-white, Anti-Semitic Asian-supremacists pissed about whiteys stealing their women.
That just happens to hit on a sore spot.
Just last week I had to tell an associate of mine off, because he constantly stated that “the Jews have Hollywood in their grip”. This person has not the smallest clue how the American movie industry works, has most probably never in his life met a Jewish person but sits there smugly in my living room and thinks he can state as a fact that “the Jews” as a kind of hive-mind control Hollywood. And to top everything off, when I told him I won’t tolerate anti-Semitism in my own living room, he tried to justify his statements with his disagreement with Israel’s action against the Palestinians. And sees himself as an enlightened leftist.

Ah, the old D Laurier we know and love. I did some research on this a little while back. It came in the wake of the Camp David Summit in 2000 where Ehud Barak offered Yassir Arafat 95% of Gaza and the West Bank only to be rejected and the Beirut Summit in April 2002 when all the Arab countries put forward a peace plan. Sharon said this in the context of the subsequent 2002 peace negotiations; you know, the "road map" that war buffs have been trying to kill from day one. What Ariel Sharon wanted was a permanent peace settlement between Israel and, shock and horror, all the Arab countries that expressed an interest in Beirut in making peace.

That way we could finally catch up with all the stuff from the last years we haven’t yet been able to see. (Seriously, six seasons of Breaking Bad? How am I supposed to fit that into my schedule?)
A list of projects that would be excepted from the stop will be provided to you. (I will not wait three years for season 4 of GoT or the next Terence Malick movie!)
@Kuno: I get what you mean, or better went through, there's a very thin line between criticizing Israel and and conspiratory anti-semitism. Many Germans on both sides don't really seem to know were it is. Leftists overreach into anti-semitism, and some conservatives seem to think that everytime one disagrees with Isarael's policies it's just as bad as preparing the next Holocaust. It's so fucking ironic that most Israelis would actually agree with the sane leftists, and disagree with the American public so much (wonderfully protrayed in several Daily Show segments over the years).

I agree with you. Growing up in a supposedly reform and liberal Jewish community, you have no idea how much lip I got for criticizing Israel. I was accused of everything from 'being ignorant' to being a 'self-hating Jew'. It's part of the reason why I distanced myself from the religious community and started considering myself a Jew in culture only.
What nobody seems to understand in my community is that criticizing Israel doesn't mean I hate it. I actually do have faith in the nation of Israel, or at least the nation that Israel could be if they could just stop bending to the backwards, xenophobic far right and Orthodox factions. It should be a beacon of progressiveness and unity between all people, values that great swathes of the reform community subscribe to, but it can only be that if the government stops giving the fundies everything they want.

These “I am anti-Semitic because of Israel’s actions”-types always ignore (or are ignorant of) the many Jews and Israelis that are also critical of these actions. But the same people are deeply offended if someone plays the “All Germans are Nazis”-card
