If Obama gets in office eventually all Christians will be the enemy of the country. A preacher saying things about homosexuals will be a hate crime. He even said he will make it hate crimes even more detailed. I know we are not to judge another's beliefs but measure them by their fruits. He is not producing any fruits it's a bare tree .

Negative things - then yeah, thats how it should be. We live in modern civilised times yet discrimination whatever the reason given to justify it, still rears its ugly head.
Let me get this straight. When a CHRISTIAN gets in office, then all Christians will be the enemy of the country? Do you even know what you're saying? Oh, right, I forgot, Obama's secretly a communist, atheist Muslim. Get a grip.
@Bass X0: I agree.
[If Obama gets in office eventually all Christians will be the enemy of the country.]
How? How will Obama do this?
That's what gets me about the "Obama will outlaw Christianity" bullshit--even IF the president decided that he wanted to ban a particular religion, he doesn't have the authority to do so!
(Unless I'm wrong--I'm actually rather ignorant of how the US government works. Anybody care to comment?)
@Bass X0
While I agree with your sentiment, I do not agree such speech should be a "hate crime". Churches are private property, and a preacher can say whatever he or she wants within its walls, no matter how vile and hateful as long as he is not inciting violence. If, however, he's standing on a public street corner spewing his hate, then yes, he should be charged.
@agentCDE
Nice!
More whinings about persecution that never will be, from a slippery slope that doesn't exist, as a consequence of conservative politics not being adequately catered to. Again, the fact that they are worried about being locked away for hate speech while claiming to be the religion of love never fails to entertain.
A preacher saying things about homosexuals will be a hate crime.
If it's negative then yes it should be illegal. Are you trying to say that discriminating against someone because of their choice of lifestyle is a good thing?
On the hate speech: There's a little something called "incitement to violence". Even if you're saying it on private property, if you're encouraging other people to go out and beat the shit out of gays, that's hate speech and a criminal offense (or should be).
@emau99: The president can't make laws. He can ask his party's members in Congress to propose the laws he wants, and then sign them once passed, but he has no authority to make laws (Shrub's signing statements notwithstanding), and he can veto the laws he doesn't like (after which Congress can pass them anyway if there's enough support). So it wouldn't be quite as simple as Obama saying "anti-gay speech is hate speech".
If Obama gets in office eventually all Christians will be the enemy of the country.
- There is freedom of religion guaranteed by the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution. Why are you bitching about this? Because it doesn't allow you to persecute others?
A preacher saying things about homosexuals will be a hate crime.
- In many European countries if anyone says something derogatory about any group (not just gays!), it may well fall under the heading of 'incitement to hatred' legislation. So yes, it would be a crime. But homosexuals have no interest in fundies, or in bothering them, if the fundies leave them alone. Besides, the incitement to hatred legislation would also protect so-called christians. So why are you bitching about it? Would it be limiting your prejudices, perhaps?
He even said he will make it hate crimes even more detailed.
- That is how civilised societies behave. Have you a problem with this? Or do you prefer to remain outside the bounds of civilisation?
I know we are not to judge another's beliefs but measure them by their fruits. He is not producing any fruits it's a bare tree .
- Not judging others essentially means minding your own business and letting others get on with their lives within the law. If you want to benefit from this kind of decent living, then you must be prepared to extend the same measure to others. To fail in this is nothing less that hypocrisy.
"Strange how racism, homophobia, xenophobia and stupidity all dovetail into each other."
@ Princess Rot
It's the 'demon' of ignorance and cultivated fear that is being invoked.
"... eventually all Christians will be the enemy of the country."
eventually ? They've pretty much got things fucked up here on their own already, and they seem to be enemies of just about everything, including each other.
It seems to me that Christians are already "the enemy of the country," or they consider the country their enemy.
I mean, they seem to be all about tearing down everything the founding fathers did and rewriting it all to suit their narrow little beliefs.
A preacher saying things about homosexuals will be a hate crime.
For something Jesus never said a damn word about, these guys sure are tenacious about it.
While I agree this guy is a nutcase, I disagree with all the people saying that 'hate speech' should be against the law. The 1st amendment is designed to cover all types of speech, even the most bigoted, as long as they are not an open incitement to violence. A preacher saying 'homsexuality is wrong' or hell, even 'black people are evil' should not be charged if it's said within the confines of a church or other private property. Now, yelling things like 'faggots should be beat to death' on a street corner is completely different, and should be a crime.
Remember, you can't change people's views by passing laws against what they can and can't say. Governments across all history have tried that, and it never works.
@emau99
You are correct.
1st Amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
Obama cannot, under any circumstance, prohibit the exercise of Christianity, nor deny Christians the right to (peacefully) assemble, nor deny Christians the right to demand that the government redress grievances (note, however, that this does not prohibit the government from denying them recompense if they feel it's not a valid demand). If he tried to do any of these things it'd be grossly unconstitutional and it's quite likely even the hardliners in his own party wouldn't support him.
He's also a Christian, and an American politician who supports the Constitution and particularly the Bill of Rights, which would make such an attempt intensely hypocritical.
You can dislike or even hate homosexuals, whites, blacks, jews, native americans, atheists anything you want.
You may not infringe on their civil rights like marriage, employment and you cannot harrass them.
See? You can still hate.
Crapture Ready takes the wolf of illogical hatred and bigotry, then dress it up to look like Christianity.
A pathetic bunch of misguided lunatics who are a waste of bandwidth.
America is a democracy, and Hitler used loopholes in the German democracy in 1933 to impose the most evil regime of the 20th century - also in the name of christianity.
"If Obama gets in office eventually all Christians will be the enemy of the country"
This Christian is not an enemy of the country.
Does your head hurt yet, Ron?
"A preacher saying things about homosexuals will be a hate crime."
Good. Then they can spend more time talking about what Jesus actually taught, which included fuck all about gays.
He's producing the fruits of tolerance and respect, of treating others as you want to be treated.
You know, that reminds me of someone... Who could it be? Oh, wait, it's that Jesus dude.
If you're not to judge other people's belief, then stop judging our belief that most homosexuals are normal, decent people, just like most heterosexuals are. Asshole!
Confused?
