“That’s why real religious belief becomes so hard to shake, don’t You see?”
Stuff that’s been brainwashed into you since birth is difficult to shake, yes. Doesn’t make it correct.
"It’s nothing like one’s “individual conscience” or “internal principles” that way.”
No, it’s not. I spent a LOT of time on watch underway, thinking about moral questions. not at all the same as those who insist the Bible has all the answers you’ll ever need.
"After all, most people can lose those pretty easily!”
Really? I was stoned to the gills on painkillers when my gall bladder died, and my wife reccounts a conversation i had with the chaplain. We discussed my teddy bear (Asterix, the Gall Bear), and pain, and surgery , and prayer. And even out of my mind with chemicals, i did not want her to pray for me.
I was polite, and had very careful diction, but turned down her offer.
It’s a hard-won choice of mine, but it runs deep.
"Just ask anyone when they’re at a party after a few drinks”
I don’t drink, but a few CC’s of narcotics did much the same.
“ and some Ecstasy”
I don’t drug recreationally.
“and they’re watching a porn movie on the HDTV while everyone’s grinding to Usher, to take an obvious for-instance.”
An obvious what?
I don’t partake of ecstasy or Usher, but i don’t really judge those who do. What the fuck are you saying?
"At that point, You can pretty much kiss their individual “consciences” and “principles” adios.”
So, when someone’s brain functions are compromised, they aren’t consistent with adopted stances. Well, certainly seen that with the Thumpers in foreign ports.
But not sure what that proves. It’s like, if power is fluctuating, a computer’s output is suspect. That doesn’t mean the programming is wrong.
